“Had an awesome time at Starlight Pines!”

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Starlight Pines B&B. The B&B is charming and extremely clean. Rooms are nice and spacious. Richard was super nice and provided us with great recommendations. We very much enjoyed our conversations with Richard and the other guests. The breakfasts were delicious!!! The French Toast is amazing :) Starlight Pines is very close to all the major attractions in Flagstaff which is a very cute town with some truly stellar restaurants. I would highly recommend staying here when you are Flagstaff.

Yet another great visit at the Starlight Pines! Thank you, Richard for being so welcoming, we always feel so at home when visiting. While it has been a while since we were here last, we still enjoy our conversations and visiting the great little downtown of Flagstaff. Breakfast was delicious as usual – the grapefruit brulee was out of this world! Thank you, as well, for accommodating our late check in – AND for making an exception for us to bring our small doggie this time too– that was reeeallly nice of you! WE love Flagstaff – and Starlight…so, we will be back again soon!

Room Tip: They are all nice!

I had a wonderful two-day stay at Starlight Pines B&B during my trip through the Western USA. In a beautiful house set amidst pine trees in Flagstaff, the host Richard immediately makes you feel at home. The room was both spatious and full of character. After a good night sleep, with only the sound of birds in the backgound, a delicious breakfast was awaiting, starting with well-selected Italian coffee, followed by a rich fruit bowl and a marvellous French toast. An excellent start to a new day. After some useful practical tips of Richard, it was on the road to explore the nature surrounding Flagstaff. I highly recommend this B&B (which is open year-round).

As promised, back again - it was so nice to escape the heat of phoenix! We stayed in the Lily for 3 nights near the end of July during the middle of the week....My partner and I loved this room. We enjoyed our early morning coffee and afternoon wine on our private balcony with a beautiful view of the mountain!! It was extremely quiet, no kids or stern teachers nor dogs barking... Coming mid-week, we were able to visit the area attractions with a lot of elbow room!

We will definitely be back - during the winter (dragonfly room!).

thank you again, richard, for yet another unforgettable stay and keep up the great customer service!!!

Room Tip: Lily (private balcony) during the summer - and Dragonfly during winter (wood burning fireplace)

My husband and I stayed in the Dragonfly Room for our first B&B experience. Richard is an amazing host and made us feel comforable and at home. He toured us through the beautiful house, gave us great restaurant recommendations and prepared a delicious gourmet breakfast. We loved sitting on the spacious front porch, swinging on the porch swing while chatting over a glass of wine. The location is perfect - not far from the highway or downtown Flagstaff. Richard helped us navigate to the places we wanted to go, even letting us know about our chances of finding parking or sneaking into Josephine's early without a reservation. We enjoyed meeting the other guests over the fabulous breakfast and truly loved our stay. We will definitely visit again next time we head to Flagstaff.

I know, I don't usually suggest five stars if there are any issues. I went back and forth between four and five stars for a LONG time, but had to suggest four. Understand, this is a great location and I would definitely stay here again. It just was not up to a perfect rating.

The Great things about this location: Richard is a fabulous proprietor. He is friendly and accommodating. He and Baxter, the house dog were waiting for us upon arrival, and eagerly showed my wife and I the property. He took a lot of pride in the property, and was currently painting areas which were accessible.

The residence itself is quite quaint, and the rooms are comfortable. We had the Lily room with its attached balcony, although to be honest we could not take advantage of the balcony on this trip. Others have written that this is a quiet room but I again have to be honest and tell you that it was not so quiet. There is a school next door, so during the day it was impossible to nap or read quietly due to the noise of happy children playing and stern teachers trying to herd cats. Certainly not the fault of the proprietors, more of a circumstance of location. The barking dog another night would have been gladly exchanged for the occasional car or truck going down the street.

The room itself was well appointed and clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The only concern with the room was that we were told be Richard that the mixing valve on the tub had a crack and as such we needed to turn the supply valves on and off before getting in. I hate to be picky, but this is an item that should have been repaired as soon as was practicable after learning of it and it simply was not. We don't know when the issue arose but we were told about it in such a casual manner that I have to believe that it has exited for a while.

There is also no air conditioning, which was no big deal, but nor was there a ceiling fan. I understand that the furnishings were period correct and antiques, but a ceiling fan would have been nice. The small oscillating fan that was left on the floor was not what we would have expected and barely did the job. The second night we simply left it off and kept the windows open (which was reason that the neighbor's barking dog became such an issue).

We had somewhat of an issue being that a tour company (we were playing tourist) was going to pick us up the next morning at 7:30 so a full breakfast was not going to be possible. He assured us that he would prepare and leave a yogurt and fruit breakfast for us in the refrigerator and would have coffee waiting, but then said that he would prepare at least the fruit and yogurt portion of what our "normal" breakfasts would be. We were met with hot coffee and a bowl of diced fruit and yogurt with honey which was greatly appreciated if not a little on the sweet side.e had somewhat of an issue being that a tour company (we were playing tourist) was going to pick us up the next morning at 7:30 so a full breakfast was not going to be possible. The second day we were able to take advantage of the breakfast offered. We were disappointed for several reasons, but please understand, Richard seems to be a great chef. We were disappointed as the day before we were not able to take advantage of breakfast. Not his fault. The second morning he was going to make the signature French Toast which we were really looking forward to, but one of the other guests was apparently Diabetic. As a result, he made a dish of eggs and cheese, reminiscent of a soufflé, that was, well, OK. As opposed to accommodating that guest, he changed the menu for us all. We did have yogurt and fruit, but then came the soufflé. Even more of a strada would have been appreciated given the reputation.

I admit, I may be a little hard on this property. However, knowing that we were not able to take advantage of the breakfast part of the package one day, and then changing the whole menu to accommodate one guest was not what we would have expected especially when we were there two nights. The other guests were not repeat customers and were there one night. I am not saying not to accommodate, but more of a balance and an accommodating for us would have been nice.

For those desiring to stay here, I would suggest that you do so with your eyes open. Definitely stay here, as it is a nice property and Richard is a nice host. It's close to the freeway exit (not so close as you hear it, but close enough that you don't have to drive for miles to get here once getting off the Freeway). It's also close enough to downtown that you are not put out, yet you don't hear the bar noise. Also, make certain that you tell Richard that you want that French Toast so you don't miss out like we did.

Richard greeted us with open arms and gave us the grand tour. This B&B was built to look like a Victorian home so it has all of the wonderful decor and authentic pieces of the period. The bathroom was huge and beautifully decorated but the breakfast was a masterpiece! Thanks for the great experience.
