“Second Trip to escape the HEAT!”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

This was my second trip up to this beautiful establishment! Escaping the heat in Phoenix is almost a must by the time July hits!! The Lily room is perfect! It has a little private balcony that looks out over Mt. Elden...Stunning view.

My last trip was in February - I was sad to learn that one of their pups, Taz, had passed on. 16 or so older. Baxter and Mooshu are still there and are a great dogs - ones Taz's brother (mooshu I think).

Richard was a great host and is so warm and genuinely a nice guy. I had to leave early (6:30am), to head back to Phoneix - he was so kind as to put a "to-go" bag in the guest fridge the night before. It was loaded with fresh cut up fruit and a separate container for his yummy vanilla yogurt - and also a few granola bars...

All in all, a great place to choose for a quiet gettaway as a single person - or romatically as a couple..Great breakfasts and a great location (downtown was not even 10 minutes and their road to Beaver or San Francisco to get there).

Thank you, Richard - I look forward to my Dragonfly room again in December or January- have that wood ready for that gorgeous fireplace in my room!

Room Tip: Both Lily (summer), Dragonfly with fireplace (winter)

Once again...thank you so much for picking Starlight Pines for your place to stay when in Flagstaff! We so appreciate you writing a review. Thank you so much for communicating via texting - it is quick, easy and convenient!!

I/we look forward to your next visit during the winter months. I'm getting cedar, juniper and pine to burn in the Dragonfly Room this winter too! As I do believe, Starlight Pines is the only B&B to have a wood-burning fireplace in one of its guests rooms!

See you soon!

Sincerely,
Richard :)

We've stayed at Starlight Pines three times now. The first time was for our honeymoon in 2008 and the most recent visit was a few weeks ago to escape from Tucson's extreme July heat.

The house is lovely, the food is delicious, and the host is very welcoming.

In warm weather we enjoy relaxing on the front porch.

I'm sure we'll be back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are very nice. Choose the Art Deco room if you need something on the ground floor...

Richard makes a great host for a stay in the pines. The rooms are well-appointed and clean (get a look at the upstairs room with a private balcony if you're staying in spring or fall), and Richard was very accommodating with our breakfast plans. You're in a nice, quiet spot away from the (relative) bustle of downtown. It's a great spot to base your Grand Canyon trip, for sure, or just to come enjoy Flagstaff.

This is a lovely B & B...We visit Flagstaff often and were tired of the corporate hotels so looked into B & Bs. Richard is the perfect host, followed closely (literally!) by Baxter and MuShu...if you love dogs, they are another, very sweet, plus. The property itself is charming, set up perfectly as a bed and breakfast. Initially I was disappointed we didn't get the room with the fireplace (already rented) so we took our 2nd choice...the Lily Room. Turned out the Lily Room was the best one, at least in the summer...We had our own private balcony looking out on a mountain, and it had a side area where one could read while your partner/spouse slept in the main room. Very comfortable, impeccably clean, the breakfasts were healthy and gourmet and Richard is very helpful without being at all intrusive. It was a great weekend stay and we highly recommend this B & B.

Thank you so much for taking the plunge to staying at a B&B, more specifically ours too!! Happy to know you liked the Lily Room for your stay! I hope you will be back to test drive the Dragonfly Room this winter to enjoy the only wood-burning fireplace!! Starlight Pines' is the only B/B in Flagstaff that has real wood burning fireplace in one of its rooms!

Sincerely,
Richard :)

We had the pleasure of staying at Starlight Pines B&B on our May anniversary trip. It was our last stop in the "wilds" before returning to Las Vegas for our return flight home to Camano Island, WA. We were delighted to find this gem of a B&B after many days on the road through the Canyons of Utah and Arizona. Richard and the pups were the perfect hosts, our room was delightful and the breakfast was divine.

Even though we arrived earlier than planned, Richard was gracious and invited us to enjoy the cozy front porch while he put the finishing touches on our room. The recommendations for our dinner options were wonderful; it was hard to make a choice, but it turns out that Richard and Michael's favorite spot was ours too!

If I was ever to own a B&B, Starlight Pines would be a great model to emulate.

Like antiques? How about little pooches who will meet you at the door? Maybe you'd like some grapefruit brûlée with bananas and brown sugar for a little morning delight before egg and cheese soufflé? Fresh brewed coffee sipped with a good book on a swing on a wrap around porch, the early morning sun warming your back. Listen for the rattle of ravens, the small hammers of nearby woodpecker carpenters and smell the fresh pine needles. Inhale--exhale. Richard, B&B host extrodinairre, will make your stay perfect. How about an evening reservation at Josephine's? Menus are all on hand to help you decide. Later, soak in a claw-foot tub and slip under the covers for a sweet night's sleep. You have no worries.

Room Tip: If you'd rather no climb stairs, take the Art Deco room.

The Starlight Pines is located in a majestic old mansion a few minutes outside of the town of Flagstaff. There are parking spots on the premises. We stayed in the Art Déco room on the first floor. This room is spacious, has high ceilings and is nicely decorated. The same is true for the living and the dining room. There is also a nice front porch.
The Starlight Pines is the ideal base to explore the area. There are so many things to do. Richard, the innkeeper, was extremely helpful and provided us with a lot of very useful information about the sights. Unfortunately we had not enough time to explore it all.
The breakfast was home made and absolutely delicious! The best breakfast we've ever had in a B&B.
We enjoyed our stay the Starlight Pines B&B very much!
