Owner description: Explore this fascinating ancient pueblo, located near the San Francisco Peaks, which once housed almost 100 members of the Anasazi and Sinagua tribes.

Glad We made the trip to Flagstaff for our family. The Wupatki
And Sunset Crater Volcano park were great additions to our trip! The great dwelling was well preserved and the gathering areas were strewn with pottery shards from another century.
A must see for anyone interested in the Ancient Cultures of Arizona

It's a little further off the main road, but the half-hour long drive lets you acclimate to the vast openness of the Navajo/Hopi atmosphere. Perhaps a Tony Hillerman novel on an outcrop would be even more to prepare you for slowing down to appreciate this old structure. The staff at the visitors center was delightful, the exhibits very informative, and the self-guided tour was quite interesting.

The pueblo itself is engineered to piggyback on a natural stone outcropping, resulting in an extremely interesting mix of natural stone with restored masonry. The ball field and kiva are a bonus that you don't get in some other Native American ruins.

And don't miss the blowhole! It is COOL.

Very interesting. Not Chaco Canyon but amazing constructs to see. Tough in mid-summer so bring lots of water and head cover. And a camera. Few visitors so you can spend your time looking and following guide.

Long, slow drive through Volcanos & then to Wupatki. Park Rangers were friendly & helpful never rushing you.
