Owner description: Explore this fascinating ancient pueblo, located near the San Francisco Peaks, which once housed almost 100 members of the Anasazi and Sinagua tribes.

Wupatki and Sunset Crater were the obvious side trips on route to Grand Canyon from Flagstaff.

TIP: We stopped at Wukoki (big house), walked the Wupatki trail behind the visitor centre and the Citadel. It took us about 2 hours.

We loved this National Monument! If you only have time (or energy) for one stop, visit the ruin by the Visitor's Center.

We were only able to visit 2 ruins: Wukoki and Wupatki. The structures were very nice, the Wukoki ruins seem quaint on the inside while the Wupatki ruins look marvelous complete with their ceremonial center, community circle, etc.

The walk around both ruins were easy and light. We were able to climb up their rooms, take photos, as well as walk around the foot of the ruins. The view from afar is nicer to take photos.

Their history can be read and seen at the visitor center of the monument.

We were staying in Tuba City, on our way to the Grand Canyon the next day and decided, on a whim, to visit these ruins. Boy, what a site! Our family would highly recommend these ruins which are so interesting to tour (spend $1 on the paper guide to learn more fully about the ruins), and the landscape around them is beautiful.

You should also continue down the road to see the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument - the scenery here is also beautiful.

A great side trip - totally worth it. You could spent as little as an hour and a half here, but if you want to do some hiking, you could spend a lot more time.

Is this really in Flagstaff? I wouldn't have said so. It's not far from the east entrance (route 64) to the Grand Canyon.
