I was put off by the amount of steps you had to walk up and down to get to the island. It was so worth it, take your time coming back up( going down was easy) !
Just amazing! Quiet, really quiet, the wind gently blowing and whistling through the pines and past you as you walk around the island. Breathe in the fresh air and imagine what life must have been like living on an island in the middle of a canyon!! Awesome!!!

Neat place to see. You take a short walk (there are a lot of stairs though) and see the caves where native americans lived. Part of the route was blocked off for construction when we were there but you could see pretty much everything on the part that was open anyway. Make sure you are healthy enough to climb a lot of stairs as well as take a short walk along the mountainside (all in hot weather) before attempting this.

Really nice Visitors centre and charming forest and canyon,, not on the scale of the grand canyon, but still a lovely pine forest environment. I hope it is still there after the summer fires. Enjoyed seeing he vegetation labeled on the adjacent walks

We went to Walnut Canyon National Monument and were pleasantly surprised to see this wooded, 400 ft deep canyon with numerous cliff dwellings. Definitely worth a couple hours to walk the trails. Be aware the trails are moderately strenuous and you cannot take pets with you.
