I booked two non-smoking rooms. Instead I received two smoking ones. The owner tried to lie saying those were non-smoking, and the ashtrays in the rooms were put due to a leak from the ceiling. There was no Wi-Fi connection, no promised complimentary Continental breakfast, no hairdryers. Cheap as it seemed the staying was awful. Would not recommend staying there even for one night

We just spent one night at the Knights Inn - it was a first and last time experience. I booked on-line through Wyndhamworldwide.com reservations. Stated check-in was noon. We arrived shortly after noon and were promptly told by the desk clerk that they were short-handed on maid service and no rooms were available and none would be ready until 3pm. As we were leaving the office, another couple arrived without reservations, inquiring about room availability. Somehow the desk clerk magically was able to produce a room for them on the spot.

We returned after 3pm and the desk clerk gave a blank look and asked if we had a reservation. She did produce a room for us and proceeded with check-in. She had some difficulty running our credit card and asked for a different card. The problem was not the card but her lack of understanding in processing. We suggested she try again and viola – the charge went through. I noticed that the charge was higher than the guaranteed reservation amount. When I asked why, she said they charge $3.89 for utility charge. WHAT?? Since when are utilities EXTRA AMENITIES?? Obviously a guaranteed room rate with this hotel is meaningless.

Our non-smoking room #107 smelled of smoke and unidentified foul odors (we suspect animal urine). There was nothing new about our room except the wrapped roll of toilet paper in the closet-sized bathroom. Tiles were missing from the shower ledge. On a happy note, the water pressure in the shower was quite good.

Out of 3 lamps near the bed, only 1 worked. I found an employee outside and showed him one of the broken lamps. Nearly an hour later he returned with a “fixed” version, complete with piecemeal masking tape repairs. Lighting over the vanity sink was extremely dim. The bed was hard like a rock, but they did have plenty of pillows.

Ice bucket was provided, although ice was available only through a vending machine. Advertised continental breakfast was non-existent but large dispensers were present in the office. We left after 8am and the office was still closed.

We did not have high expectations for the Knights Inn and found they delivered even less. It seems that Flagstaff has no shortage of marginal hotels run by owners-in-residence. This is just one more. Lesson learned – never again. Once was more than enough.

I visited Flagstaff because my daughter is enrolling as a student at Northern Arizona University. I very much enjoyed my stay at the Knights Inn. It is directly across the street from NAU so the location is perfect. It is several blocks from the train tracks so the train noise was minimal (a real issue in Flagstaff).

The couple who own it have only had it for 2 months. They also own a nearby Days Inn. They have almost completely renovated this place. The beds, bedding, furniture, carpet -- all new. It is a simple, old motel so there is nothing fancy and the rooms are not very big. But if you are looking for clean, simple place with a great location -- at a terrific price ($40/night!) -- check this out. I booked it through the national chain website which may be a better deal than calling the motel directly.
