“Historical and Beautiful”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

Our stay was average; comfortable room, reasonable rate and attentive service. The lobby is the big deal about our visit. It has the grandness of the old railroad stations with the art and décor of Tiffany glass, mosaic wall art and floors with comfortable seating and ample room for guests arriving and leaving. The lobby also contains a café( open till noon M-F) and a restaurant.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your visit, and especially our Grand Lobby Atrium. It is certainly a spectacular space, and something we in Scranton cannot help to be proud of. We are just nearing the completion of a full cleaning and polishing of our gorgeous original Tiffany glass vaulted ceiling, which only adds to the luster and illumination given to the lobby, and truly brings you back in time. We hope to be able to welcome you back this winter once all of the amazing property enhancements are complete.

This is a unique building, but the inside and outside are tired and worn. The hallways, room, elevators, fitness room appear run down and overused. Our room was large enough to accommodate a family of four nicely, and the mattresses were some of the best we have slept on. However, ceiling plaster was visibly peeling off and there was a lingering moldy smell in the room. Very little furniture in the large room. Could have used additional bed side tables and a sofa or other piece of furniture for storage. The bath had a nice outside vanity with granite counters, but it was the worst feature of the hotel. The bathroom door literally would not shut because it was too large for the frame. Mold and mildew in shower, which would not drain. Adjust your expectations that this is not a typical Radisson and is on the very low side of a 3-star hotel. The front desk service was excellent and the woman on duty gave us several good recommendations in Scranton. Also great server in the Starbucks cafe.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your thorough feedback and reactions to your stay, and your comments have been heard, and answered. We are in the beginning steps of a full property redesign which will address all of the items you mentioned, and then some. Our quiet redesign will move to the rooms over the coming months, and the work will be spread out so as not to disrupt any business or guest enjoyment during that time. We're looking forward to the fresh take on the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station, and we hope you will join us when renovations are complete!

My mother and I stayed at the hotel in March 2014 to attend my nephew's wedding. I was born and raised in the Scranton area and always wanted to stay at the Station. I was terribly disappointed in my stay. My mother has arthritis and has a difficult time walking so we used the handicapped ramp which was at the opposite end of the building from the front desk. That meant another long walk to get to the desk and then the elevators. It would be nice if there was a ramp at the door to the elevator lobby. The room was fine but the configuration did not allow for two people to pass between the foot of the one bed and the desk. The bathroom was terribly small and difficult to maneuver to get into the shower/tub. The hotel also charges $15 per day per item to have a refrigerator and/or microwave in the room. I have never stayed in a hotel where I had to pay for a fridge or microwave! My nephew's wedding reception was held at the Colonnade 3 blocks from the Radisson. I asked for a shuttle to take us there at 5:30pm and pick us up later. I was told at the front desk by Erin that the shuttle could take us but there was no guarantee it would come back to pick us up because its sole purpose it to pickup/deliver aircrew to/from the airport. I told her my sister and her family were at the Hilton and they were taking the Hilton shuttle to/from the reception. The response I received was that I should try to "get a ride with the Hilton shuttle" which was totally inappropriate. We ended up calling a cab and waiting outside for a half hour to be picked up. The hotel lobby is absolutely beautiful and full of history and years ago when the city wanted to tear down the old Lackawanna Station I was very glad to see it transformed into a hotel and saved. In spite of the disappointment I experienced there was a bright spot in the weekend. That bright spot was Barbara who served us breakfast on Saturday and Sunday in the lobby restaurant. She was friendly, helpful, professional and a joy to chat with. She is an absolute gem and I would certainly visit the hotel for breakfast again. However, the next time I travel to Scranton I will be staying at the Hilton!

Driving your son and his apartment contents from Boston, MA to St Louis MO in a U-haul is a bit of an adventure for a Brit. He doesn't drive, so it's all down to you. And all you expect of a hotel along the way is a chain clone with a clean room. So stumbling across the Lacakawanna Station Hotel was serendipitous. Had intended to pull off the town before, but road works got in the way. Went inside for a look - found they had rooms and at a very reasonable price. Place is stunning - marble columns, Tiffany glass inner ceiling. Excellent food, too, with very good service, both at dinner (better than I had expected and a good wine list) and breakfast. Rooms a reasonable size. Quiet. Hotel staff unobtrusive but on the ball when needed, and obviously proud of the place. What more could you want?

This hotel is outstanding in many ways. Our stay here pleasant and memorable, thanks inpart to the great staff, wonderful ambience and superb food. The building was the train station of Scranton years ago before it wad converted and many of the features of that time are charmingly incorporated, such as the marble walled dining room, stained glass dome and passenger benches .
We ate breakfast and dinner there, once in Carmens and once at Traxx, their bar/lounge and the food wad excellant everytime. Our stay coincided with a wedding party but in no way did that detract from the service. The last meal we ate there was the Sunday brunch which is not to be missed. Every staff member we interacted with couldn't have been morehelpful or friendly. Our next visit to Scranton will definatly include a stay at this wonderful hotel.

Actually stayed here because every where else was booked. Was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the place. Check in was nice and quick with a friendly staff. The room, however, smelled very musty and the AC did not work and the fan was very loud (even though it didn't provide air). We had a few drinks at the outside bar area. The drinks and food was very good but the waitress was slow and kind of ditzy. In the morning, I purchased a muffin in the hotel coffee shop and it was awesome.

I've stayed here about a dozen times on business, and usually all is good, but not always. The place is old, but relative modern, and very cool and historic (which is mainly why I like to stay here). The Hilton across the street gives me a complimentary buffet breakfast, and other perks, and has a great pool/Jacuzzi, so I usually stay at the Hilton, but the Radisson is my second choice, and is not at all bad, in fact much better than most anywhere else ('cept the Hilton).

Room Tip: Can be noisy by the elevator or ice machines
