“Great walking path”

Reviewed July 17, 2014

Lake Scranton is a lake surrounded by a paved path which is little wider than a car. It is owned by the water company. They do not allow dogs. Its a great place for a good workout. I know if I "walk the lake" I will get my entire workout in. I have seen many deer, turkeys, geese, chipmunks, squirrels, and a snake one time, sunbathing. There is a "lookout" with views of the PA mountains, trees and of course, Lake Scranton. During peak season, there are many runners/walkers. No bathrooms. I am a pretty fast walker and walking the entire lake takes me 45-50 minutes.

Found this place by happy accident on a trip about 10 yrs ago. What a terrific place to walk. About 3.5 mi walk around the lake. Lots of wildlife to see, squirrels, chipmunks and deer. Locals are all friendly. Very well used trail and lots of nice free parking. Easy to reach from I-81 so if we're heading up or down I-81, we always get off for a walk around the lake.

It is a good walk and relaxing. the area is kept nice and clean and appealing. Really is fun to walk around the lake. The park officers are polite. Parking lot is big. The view of the lake is good to. A nice laid back environment. A good place to visit if nature is your thing.

Ample parking. Open until dusk. Park officer waits at the gate until the last person leaves, no getting locked in. Nice 3 mile paved path. Get's pretty busy during nice weather, but people are pretty sparce as the spread over the 3 miles is pretty big. Great views of the lake.

The paved walkway is a little over 5k, easy walk with a few hills (not steep at all). It's picturesque in most areas. Have never seen any bears like another poster says, but it is the woods and there are deer and the occasional snake sunning itself, so just be cautious. Also it's pretty safe, never had any issues walking alone. The worst part of Lake Scranton in the hill back to the parking lot, it's a bit steep.
