My husband and I stayed at the Hilton over Labor Day weekend while visiting Steamtown in Scranton. The hotel had a large spacious lobby and the employees at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in Room 636. Our room was spacious and clean with a great view of the old Lackawanna train station, one of the more famous landmarks of Scranton. We had breakfast in the hotel one morning. The buffet had a wide range of items, from freshly made waffles and eggs benedict to cold cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt parfaits. The wait staff at breakfast was not very friendly and didn't check to see if we needed any refills on coffee, juice, etc. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was fabulous. I had tuna steak and my husband had meatloaf - both of which were delicious. Our waitress was excellent, very personable, helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu and specials. We had drinks in the lounge both nights we stayed there and although we had table service on one of the nights, we had to go up to the bar the other night to get drinks.

We picked a great time to be in Scranton. The City was having an Italian Festival, a music festival and a Railfest over Labor Day weekend and the city was alive with people. The Hilton was one of the venues for the music festival and you could hear live rock music from the festival in the lobby. I thought it was cool and enjoyed it.

Overall, we had an enjoyable time at the Hilton in Scranton and thought that the price and quality were consistent with its 3-star rating.

Just a note about rates. My husband booked the room on line right from the Hilton website. He got a good rate on the room, but when he checked the rates a few days before we were going to stay there, the rates had dropped, and he was able to save about $100 by changing the reservation to the new rate. So, if you have a reservation at the Hilton, it wouldn't hurt to check it out a few days before you leave to see if you can save a little money.

We did book well in advance with this hotel, and even then there were issues with our request for a smoking room. As one could be provided it mean't our view was overlooking the air conditioning units. No matter, that was the only problem we had with this hotel. The room was very comfortable and we thankfully were not disturbed by anyone even though several functions were going on. The staff here seemed very nice and accommodating. The hotel is well situated, there is a mall right next door which we browsed around (and had lunch at the Ground Round) prior to checking in. The parking facility was well lit and had plenty of room. Was a reasonable overnight hotel.

We stayed at the Hilton Scranton from July 27th to the 31st. This is our third time in Scranton but the first time we've stayed at the Hilton. After reading the overall good reviews, I decided to book. We got our room for $88/night which we felt was a great rate. When we arrived at the hotel, we were met by one of their staff, asking if we needed help with our bags, which we did. The people at the front desk were fine - some were not overly customer-service oriented - but no one was negative or rude.

Our room was a decent size and the bed was very comfortable. The air conditioning worked perfectly which was great because it was really warm when we were there.

The hotel is within walking distance of Steamtown Mall and the Steamtown National Historic Site. It's also close to Coney Island Lunch which my husband said had the best hot dogs he's ever had! If you're an architectural buff, the downtown location is perfect for a walking tour of some very beautiful and well-preserved buildings.

We had dinner at Casey's (in the Hilton) one evening. The service was excellent and the food was really good. We didn't eat there any other time. We did try the Irish Pub across the street but we were not impressed.

There really is nothing negative I can say about this hotel. We really enjoyed our experience and would book here again.

We booked a room at this hotel for the night of Friday, July 25, 2008 via the hotel's Web site and printed out the confirmation. We called the hotel repeatedly that Friday afternoon to confirm we oura arrival around 10:30 pm. Over the course of two hours, the hotel never answered the phone. We were finally able to speak to someone at the hotel at 8:00 pm. He acknowledged that no one had answered the phone earlier, saying that the hotel was very busy and they had stopped answering the phone. He then told us that the hotel was sold out and we did not have a room for the night, even though we had provided the hotel with our credit card information and received a printed confirmation. We arrived at the hotel around 10 pm and were told that we had not prepaid for a room so we were not entitled to one. Nothing on the Hilton's web site mentioned needing to prepay to guarantee a room and the option of prepaying was not available. The Guest Services Manager was especially rude. He turned his back on me when I asked him to explain how we could have avoided this mess. My guess from his reaction was that it was not possible. The Hilton will overbook and bump guests. What a horrible way to start what was suppoed to be a fun weekend. The Hilton finally offered to put us up for one night in a hotel 15 miles away. Not surprisingly, it was dreadful. To top it off, an episode of Girls Gone Wild was being filmed at the second hotel that night, and we did not sleep as screaming twenty-somethings ran around the halls until 3 - 4 am. I will not book at the Hilton again.

Like many parents it seems, we used the Scranton Hilton as an overnight stop on the way to picking up our children at camp in the Poconos. While the location was perfect, we found a number of problems.

First, be careful when you use Priceline -- apparently, the hotel foists their otherwise unused SMOKING rooms on their Priceliners. The staff was completely unsympathetic, and placed THREE ASTHMATICS in a smoke-ridden room. The smell was so strong that we had to wash everything when we got home, just to get the smoky smell out of our clothing.

The hot tub was, well, ice cold.

The neighborhood was a bit sketchy, although we did find a lovely tapas bar/pizzeria two blocks from the hotel through the ads in the hotel's guest services book.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The beds are comfy and the room is spacious. Everything is fine, until you are awakened by a hammer drill at 7am on the 4th of July. I called customer service in the lobby, they didn't seem interested. They told me they would tell them to stop using the hammer drill. (Hammer drill's are quite annoying anytime let alone at 7am) The drilling never stopped for a minute until we left at 10am. The only thing they would offer me was a breakfast coupon. I will never stay here again and I am thinking about stopping payment with Mastercard. Be aware, nice hotel - unless something goes wrong. A hotel is supposed to be known for it's hospitality, the Hilton Scranton has it all wrong.

I stayed here one night visiting family in Scranton. The lobby was clean and nice. Front desk was efficient. Room was clean and spacious. Only complaint was that the a/c did not work well. If I had checked in during the afternoon and cranked it up, the room would have been more comfortable by bed time. Other family members had similar experiences, one family member had a room that was too cold! Go figure. Stay here and enjoy. Breakfast was good. One other bad thing, the business center did not have free Internet. You needed to swipe your credit card you use the computer. Booooo
