Attraction details
Owner description: The tour will take you 300 feet below the earth into the pitch blackness old-time miners, some as young as seven or eight, had to face. While you won’t have to deal with poisonous gases, you will feel the chill. The Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour is open from April 1st through November 30th and is closed only on Thanksgiving Day.

“Coal MIne Tour”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

Weather or not you follow the history of the coal region this is an interesting tour. Family friendly, very educational, & lots of fun. Remember it is a little cooler underground, you may want to bring a jacket. Also don't miss the Museum, you'll love it.

“Don't miss this!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

There are two really great things to see in Scranton. And this is one of them! Don't miss this. It's really cool and you will never regret it. It shows us the working conditions the coal miners worked in. And from what I hear there are only two actual mines in the world you can go down in without actually working there. You'll walk away with a greater understanding of what it's like to be approx. 300' underground. It's always 50 degrees. And it's a chance to give the government 10 bucks and actually get something in return!
Oh yeah, the other great thing to see in Scranton is the Steam Town Nat'l Historic site.
Just my two cents.

“something different!”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

This is something a little different than the usual tourist attraction. Not for those who can't handle closed dark places. Truly a unique experience! Don't pass this one by. Make sure to add the Anthracite Museum.

“History under your feet”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

It is an interesting place but little kids may get scared by dark and way deep in the earth. But for people who are scared of dark and under ground place, some history is to be seen.
