Owner description: The tour will take you 300 feet below the earth into the pitch blackness old-time miners, some as young as seven or eight, had to face. While you won’t have to deal with poisonous gases, you will feel the chill. The Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour is open from April 1st through November 30th and is closed only on Thanksgiving Day.

Everyone should vist this attraction and learn what our ancesters did to support their familys, What they went through to supply fuel for the Industrial Reveloution. You will be guided by a real Coal Miner that will explain the working conditions and the dangers of minning.

But once we arrived...they said a tour bus was an hour late and they sent an extra tour guide out with that tour. We drove the hour because they said it was open. Very dissappointing!

I grew up in a coal town and this tour was the real deal. the guide was very informative and entertaining. On a personal level I know a deep mine inspector who highly recommended this tour. I was not disappointed. plus the shops and information center were great.

The labor battles that brought us the 40 hour week and so much more were fought by the anthracite coal miners of northeast PA. This mine is an incredible look into the life these men (and boys) led.

This is not a recreation but an honest to goodness real mine. Allow plenty of time, it is incredible.

This is a wonderful tour for anyone because it has so many levels. It is interesting, educational and totally different from anything else. The tour guides are full of knowledge about mining in Pennsylvania. The visit takes you on a rail car right into the mine! It's chilly all the time, so be sure to bring a sweatshirt.
