Owner description: RESERVATIONS SUGGESTED! A museum dedicated to Houdini, the famous magician. Includes a film, a guided tour of the exhibit and a 1 hour stage magic show with nationally known magicians, with doves, ducks, a rabbit and a poodle. Lots of comedy and audience participation. Our magicians have appeared on HBO and other network specials. We often sell out and advance phone reservations are discounted. Arrive between 1 PM and 2:15 and see the entire event. Earlier tours are a bit longer.

We might have enjoyed this at half the price, but that would have been a stretch. Dorothy's magic show was entertaining, and kids would enjoy it, but throw the rest out. The longest part of the show was a sales pitch for the store. Heard more about their financial situation than Houdini. When you go into a room and they point out the water stains on the wall from a leak in the roof, and it is one of only four features pointed out in a room packed with memorabilia, you know it's a long day. Lots of talk about donating for upkeep, after taking $20.00 each for the "tour". Sorry, but one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a "museum". Scranton has so much to offer, free or resonably priced. See it all before seeing this, and then - skip this!

“Swindled and overrated”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

My family and i went to the museum expecting it to be in a museum environment but instead we went into a 150 yr old house with two room and extreme clutter. Not only did we all have to pay 20 per adult ..we paid $20 for the children as well (ages 1-9). The 3 1/2 hour show started with a 10 year old movie and every statement after that was a repetition of it. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOW TO ANYONE. Do NOT waste your money !!

Our website clearly states the age of the building and even has pictures of it so as not to disappoint people who think a museum has to look like the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. Also prices are clearly shown on the website so it whould not have been a surprise, along with information there about discounts for adults and children by as much as $5.00. Cannot please everyone, but most of our reviews are very favorable.

“Terrific museum and show”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We stopped here expecting to spend an hour or two looking at stuff - maybe 2-1/2 hours with the magic show. We ended up spending almost 4 hours there, and the show was great! Fun showmanship in a very intimate setting. My kids still talk about it as their favorite part of our cross-country road trip so far, which means to them it outranks Niagara Falls, the Field Museum in Chicago or the House On The Rock in Wisconsin!

The museum is in a bit of an unusual setting, but it was a very entertaining show. This place is entertaining to all ages. The gift shop has anything you can imagine in magic. The museum has real collector items and photos from Houdini's life.
