I am not a fan of sports, but I spent five hours here with my brother, who was visiting from out of town. Ugh, five hours of basketball? Turns out, I loved it. This museum is visually stunning. You start on the third floor inside a round structure (a basketball). On every level, you can look down onto a basketball court. You can learn a lot about the teams and players and hall-of-famers, see their personal effects and pictures and actual rings and lockers and shoes (and so much more), and then you can have a hands-on experience on the lower level shooting hoops for as long as you'd like. It's a great place, even for those of us who don't even like sports! :)

“ok, not great”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

I have been to the baseball hall of fame and they did a much better job with the exhibits then the basketball hall of fame. I thought it was too small. I went through the 3 floors in about 1 and 15 minutes. I spent about 3-4 hours at the baseball hall of fame to compare. They do have a full court where you can shot a basketball, but its really geared more for the little kids.

“very, very average”
Reviewed February 19, 2012

Went to b-ball HOF today. Noticed on the way into the parking lot, almost nothing around as far as shops. Went with my 10 year old son, we got tickets, went to the 3rd floor, just face pictures of HOFers, my son wanted to go to 2nd floor right away. Some really cool stuff on floor, but they closed the Jordan exibit, and almost nothing of Jordan anywhere, VERY DISAPPOINTING. So i shot basketball with my son on the bottom floor for 3 hours to justify my trip. The only exit is thru the hof store, a trap for parents with kids.

“Much improved in recent years.”
Reviewed February 17, 2012

This is pretty good for a sports Hall of Fame. It used to be run down, but they expanded in recent years. There is a full court, where they do games & stuff for kids. The exhibits are fun and interactive, including demos on how high you can jump, etc. Its a fun couple of hours if you like hoops at all. Decent restaurant on site as well. Only down side is location, which is downtown Springfield, which is simply an awful, awful place (though where the HOF is seems generally safe).
