Alaska Ocean View Bed & Breakfast Inn
Ranked #10 of 19 Sitka B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 14, 2011

Two years ago, while working in Ketchikan, I flew to Sitka and stayed three days. This year, at the end of the tourist season, I arrived by ferry, which was a fabulous trip through the narrow passages. I was pleased to return to Alaska View. Nothing had really changed, which was fine. Attractive and comfortable rooms, beautiful decor and delicious breakfast. It is fun and informative to sit and chat with Carole. That blasted shuttle bus to the ferry did not show and they did not answer their phone.Carole called me a taxi and I was on my way. Only stayed one night this time, but it helped make my ferry voyage most worthwhile.

Loved the peace and quiet at this B&B! Booking direct with Carole via email was easy and she was very helpful. There are 4 guest rooms - we had Fireweed Room downstairs which does not have a waterview, looks out to rear courtyard. Room rather crowded with furniture etc but comfortable and very quiet. Small ensuite; shower head very high on wall and not height adjustable; had to report lack of water drainage in bath/shower – up to ankles! A plentiful breakfast is supplied with lots of sweet things; Bill was happy to provide some plain food for us on request. Located some way from town centre - approx 20-25mins walk into downtown; close to Lakeside shopping center with large supermarket (corner of Halibut Point Rd and Moller/Katlian). Can recommend Sea Otter & Wildlife cruise with Allen Marine – www.allenmarine.com – we saw so much wildlife, even in poor weather conditions.

Carole and Bill have a wonderful place. Carole spent a lot of time with us describing Sitka, what we could do and how to get to various places. Bill made the most fantastic breakfast and took care of my spcial needs since I have Celiac disease which prohibits me from eating anything containing wheat, oats, barley or rye. He even made me french toast out of gluten-free bread!
The place was so clean and furnished in a style that made you feel you were really in Alaska. The room was great!
A special thanks to Bill for taking us to the ferry when our schedule shuttle bus didn't show up.
We are definitely planning on coming back. Clay and Joanie Hesser

Room Tip: Any of the rooms I think would be great.

Carole and Bill are wonderful hosts. Their home is beautifully furnished, the beds are comfortable and oh ...... what breakfasts.

They seem willing to do anything to make their guests feel at home.

When I come back to Sitka, I will be staying at the ALASKA OCEAN VIEW BES AND BREAKFAST.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sitka and this B&B at the end of May 2011. Alaska Oceanview is located in a residential neighborhood between the AMHS ferry dock and the downtown area and a short cab ride to the airport. Carole Denkinger, the owner, works hard to make sure guests' individual preferences are met.

We stayed in the Forget-Me-Not room, the smallest of the three rooms, with a very comfortable queen-size bed, flat screen cable TV with VCR, Bose radio, free WIFI, small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, terry robes, slippers, and direct access to the outdoor hot tub. The large, ensuite bathroom had a tub with shower. Carole stocks the bath with toiletries and large, fluffy towels.

On the main floor there is a large living room and breakfast area with a deck, a lending library of VCR tapes and tons of travel books Internet access for guests without their own computer is free.

There were always snacks and freshly baked cookies around for guests to munch on. Breakfasts were generous with a variety of cold cereals, pastries and a different hot dish each day. Again, guests' individual dietary preferences are taken into account.

The house is filled with interesting art, knick-knacks and many books about Alaska. Carole will arrange cabs, tours, fishing trips, suggest restaurants etc. on request. We had her arrange transportation from the ferry terminal and to the airport for us.

We walked back and forth the downtown area several times but a cab ride would not be very expensive for those who don't wish to walk. There is a large supermarket a short distance away.

For travelers who enjoy B&B's, Alaska Oceanview is a comfortable place to stay in Sitka. By the way, is customary in Alaska to leave shoes, boots at the door and wear slippers or socks in the house. There's a bench inside the front hall where guests can remove their shoes and a basket full of slippers for guest use.

Room Tip: Ask Carole for a detailed description of the rooms.

We took a shuttle bus from the ferry terminal to this excellent B&B and bought a $24 return ticket for the two of us or $8 each one way. Our hosts Carole and Bill were very welcoming. Bill puts on an excellent and full breakfast with the other guests joining in a very social time with views from the breakfast room over the bay.
There is a public bus which runs past the B&B and goes out to the ferry terminal about 5 miles away then back into downtown Sitka. It is an easy approx. 15 minute walk into the town. The bus driver was terrific and contacted the driver on another route and we had a free transfer onto the bus to the Raptor Centre then a walk from there across to the totem pole park and back into town along the waterfront.
