They called it, "Ivory King"..... I've always known it as White King. That is the name of the tastiest King/Chinook Salmon I've ever tasted. The Stikine River has a higher percentage of white colored flesh on King Salmon than any other river, so while visiting Southeast look for it. White King isn't found much farther north and most folks from the "Lower 48" have not heard of it.
It doesn't get any better. Ludvig's cooked it to perfection. I don't like overcooked fish. Everything they serve is impeccable and of the finest quality and much attention is given to every detail. Gourmet quality in a hideaway local in beautiful, "Sitka by the Sea".

I am actually from Sitka, but only come now to visit. Ludvigs is hands down one of the best restaurants in Sitka the food is awesome and the atmosphere is great for a date night or a small group of friends. I would make this a must when in Sitka.

This restaurant can go head to head with virtually any restaurant in the world. No, it isn't quite the white table cloth type of the big urban centers, but the food is worthy, the wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the wine list is only a few VERY good pages. You can not pick anything from the menu that you won't like. From the freshest Alaska fish, Mediterranean style, Or lamb, or steaks: from original appetizers to simple but perfect desserts. And, the chef is in the kitchen!! It only seats about 35, but there is an upstairs tapas extension that is just getting started. For a town of 8500, this is totally unbelievable. Open tourist season only, darn it. I'm local.

It really is best to book a table but if you do, make it by phone - we went to the restaurant during the morning and the owner was adamant that bookings could only be made by phone! That said, this restaurant in a colourful and characterful little building along Katlian Avenue is a gem. You can be sure it will be full but the welcome and the service are warm. The menu is described, probably fairly, as "rustic Mediterranean" but there's a strong leaning towards Spanish. There's lots of fresh local seafood, bread made on the premises and a menu that immediately raises the problem of what to leave out. All we can say is that we had calamari as a shared starter, lamb meatballs and halibut as shared mains and a couple of glasses of pleasant wine. No room for desserts - oh what a pity!
