Actually spelled Ludvigs

Visited over Valentines 2008, so disappointing!

Skip this expensive tribute to someones ego.

Small highly seasoned plates, covers up the

"local" seafood flavor. High price wines, barely

passable service. Sitka is lacking in the restaurant

department, locals had high hopes for the new

Channel Club. Will try there on return trip.

I heard there had been problems and regretted not eating here before. Have to say not too impressed with whats going on there now, must have been better before, lots of people love the place. My wife who is not a big eater left hungry after very expensive pasta with meatballs. My meal was so so, small salty portions. The gal waiting on us seemed like she could have cared less if we were there or not. We wanted a little wine advice but she did not seem to know much, we liked the one we chose and bought it at the store at a big big savings. So much for a special pre-holiday meal, should have roasted a prime rib at home. All in all 5 points out of 10. 2 points are because the place is beautifully decorated, an atmosphere not like Sitka at all.

Heard so much before we arrived. Found overly spicy food, overly priced wine and our waitress was surly, demanding we wait outside in the rain while they got our table ready. Later in the trip had a delightful meal at the Bayview, better clam chowder.

I was looking forward to going to Ludwigs in Sitka, because I had read such great things about it. We arrived in Sitka on a Wednesday in July, and when I called they were booked for the next 3 nights when we would be there.

While in most of Southeast Alaska, you don't need any dinner reservation at all, I recommend making a reservation at Ludwigs before you go to Sitka if you want to eat there in high season.

We had a number of fair-good and one excellent experience in restaurants in SE Alaska during our recent trip. The only bad one (from all four of us) was at Ludwig's. The ambiance was very classy, the wine was very nice, but at least 20% over other comparable wines in other restaurants. The paella was soupy, over-cooked, mostly salmon bits with two small shrimp and one scallp and overspiced with a sort of Louisianna pepper, carrot sauce. The grilled squid appetizer was promising, cooked perfectly, but buried in rather uninteresting soggy bread crumb mixture, like a stuffing for a turkey. The lamb was overcooked, good quality, but overspiced. It was by far the most expensive meal and not nearly as good as Zen in Juneau. When we reserved, we asked about seafood and were promised an extensive list of "fresh, local seafood" available that night. Only "white salmon" and a dish using King Crab in a more compicated dish were offered three hours later. Having had elsewhere local shrimp, I would bet the shrimp were Costco and would suspect the scallops were, too.
