Beautiful restoration going on in this quaint little village church. For a small donation you can tour this gem in the middle of Sitka.
The art work in very beautiful and the history is amazing.

Stopped here on a recent cruise to Alaska. What a beautiful place with interesting history and impressive artwork. Staff very friendly ... really an Alaska must see.

We toured this old Russian Orthodox cathedral in the center of Sitka on a Sunday afternoon after services were over; the fragrance of incense still hung in the air. A member of the congregation was there to take your admission fee; he was very chatty. The wooden building is not original, having been rebuilt after a devastating fire about 50 years ago but the treasures from the original cathedral were saved and are on display. Although it's a small church, the large dome makes the space appear quite large when you are inside.

There are a few stairs to enter; it doesn't seem to be handicapped accessible.

I visited the cathedral in July 2018.
The donation to enter is $5.00. We were group of 4 and we were offered to go on the top where the bells are. We took stunning pictures of the city, and learned more about the history from the top.
Later when we enter the cathedral, we found to be very authentic with some pieces in display consistent with the history of the cathedral.

The church might not look impressive from the outside, particularly since it's surrounded by other buildings that are larger. However, inside is another story. Yes, it's been renovated but the artwork preserved is worth the visit. There'a a decent amount of icons and paintings. It's worth a stop and I'd recommend budgeting between 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Sitka has a very walkable downtown and this church is easy to find.
