Owner description: Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center has become Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital and educational center, as well as one of the state's premier visitor attractions. Each year, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to 100-200 injured bald eagles and other birds. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and Classroom Presentations around the country. The Alaska Raptor Center's 17-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest, a temperate coastal rainforest, and the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska, and features award-winning natural habitats for our 19 Raptors-in-Residence.

“Well worth the visit”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is a well run facility focused on education, rehabilitation and release of eagles. A wonderful opportunity to get up close and personal with eagles. The walking trails on site are an easy and interesting walk. Salmon can be seen (during the salmon run) making their way to the spawning grounds.

“Go to the birds!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

A unique opportunity to learn about Eagles and other rapters in Sitka.
Take your time, if you have an chance attend an Eagle release! Another very interesting feature is the ability to observe surgery on injured birds.

“Time for eagles!”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Getting involved with eagles is a wonder of time well spent!
The Raptor Center is a wonderful place to get up close and personal with eagles.
Remember there are two types of eagles, the most thought of, the Bald Eagle. But there is an other eagle that is a much better hunter and flyer, the Golden eagle@
A visit to the Raptor Center is one you will never forget.

A great way to really get to know eagles is to follow up with a visit to the Eagle Festival in Haines where they release the birds that have been rehabilitated during the year.
you can even bid for the exciting prove ledge of releasing an eagle.
Eagle Festival is in November in Haines, AK!
