Owner description: Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center has become Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital and educational center, as well as one of the state's premier visitor attractions. Each year, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to 100-200 injured bald eagles and other birds. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and Classroom Presentations around the country. The Alaska Raptor Center's 17-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest, a temperate coastal rainforest, and the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska, and features award-winning natural habitats for our 19 Raptors-in-Residence.

“Easier to see Eagles in the wild”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

It was a good place to go learn about the Eagles, but there isn't too much there. Other than a 20 min presentation, a discussion of the center, and a quick walk around the cages, there isn't a whole lot to do. Instead, I would recommend a free walk around the Totem park, where we saw at least 6 bald eagles flying around. The pictures in the wild were much better, and it was much more satisfying to see.

“Raptor center was very interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

We walked from the harbor to the center through the park. Pretty walk, but allow some time to get there. We ran out of time and had to get back to our boat via taxi but would have enjoyed seeing more of the eagles. There is a shuttle that goes to the center but it ran 20 min and 50 min on the hour and cost $5 per person. My son loved all the owls on the property. They do great things for the wild birds and it's amazing to see these raptors up close.

“Fascinated by Raptors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

I have had an on/off love of birding for over 30 years. What a treat to see these fabulous raptors up close and personal. The Alaska Raptor Center provides a wonderful service by rehabilitating raptors and returning them to the wild if they can survive and maintaining raptors too injured to return to the wild allowing them to educate the public. The center does an excellent job with public education and it's a chance to really get a good look these birds, up close. Well Done!

“Beautiful birds and surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

My husband and I walked here from the cruise ship tender boat dock, through the Totem Park. It was sunny and cold but a beautiful walk. The Center was easy to find due to the cute yellow raptor prints painted on the footpath.

We watched the educational show with Sitka the Bald Eagle, which was fantastic. We saw lots of birds and bought things at the lovely gift shop. Would love to go back regularly but unfortunatly we live on the other side of the world!
