Was surprised that there were no buildings at the top of the hill. However,, there is a great view of the harbor. Plaques along the trail list some of the history.

It's a nice walk up the hill, past a few historic signs, but there's nothing at the top - besides some beautiful views. We enjoyed the walk and the views but were a bit surprised there wasn't "more."

High atop a hill in Sitka, this offers good plaques with explanations of the history of the town and an excellent location for photos.

This is the strategic hilltop that controlled the inside passage and its lucrative fur pelt trade routes from other imperial trading nations, used first by local indians and then the Russians. Its also the place where the formal signing ceremony took place transferring Alaska from Russia to a very young United States. Its nothing more than fortified hilltop with a view, but the park service has wonderful information boards detailing all the history of the area up here, and the views are hard to beat of Sitka, its harbors, and the surrounding scenery.

The "castle" is no longer there, so a little disappointing. It's a must see in Sitka as the place where Alaska was transferred to the US, but there's nothing tangible from that event or time period left to see. There are some beautiful views, though.
