“Salmon Hatchery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

The hatchery is a great part of the Alaskan culture. Was interesting to view the salmon hatching process and to view all the fish and creatures that are local to the area. Nice little gift shop.

“Better than I expected.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

Our visit included a tour of the salmon hatchery. Salmon were running during our visit so we got a close look at their attempt to move up the stream. The indoor area with a close look at the starfish and crabs was a really fun. It's a short walk from the marina and would go back again. Children would really enjoy seeing the different starfish, etc.

“The Importance of the local Fish Hatcheries”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Though there's not much to the Science Center beyond a working model of the local waterways and the creatures that inhabit it, the Art Deco style building also is home to a fish hatchery salmon ladder. Being here during the salmon run and seeing up close and personal, and I truly mean UP CLOSE and PERSONAL, was absolutely fascinating. I was mere feet away from watching the pink, or humpie, salmon run in full course, watching untold hundreds of thousands of fish jockeying for position as they work their way from the bay and into the channel, and then up the fish ladders and into the creek to spawn. Simply amazing!

Great place to see sea life, a hatchery, and some nice scenery, all in one place with a cool gift shop where you can have a cup of chowder.
