The location is pretty dismal looking but then, you see the bears and it's just incredible. I read other reviewers who commented on how sad the place was. Yes, the "fortress" is old water tanks with no tops. The bears play with downed trees and tires and plastic balls. Is it a natural habitat? No. Is it, however, a reality that bears are orphaned. The caretakers clearly care about the bears and are very knowledgable. It is incredible to see the bears from so close. An added point of interest is the large number is bald eagles which fly around like seagulls at the beach. I gave the Fortress 4 stars because I too feel torn between the "large cage" like enclosure (it is large....) and the begging for food but I have to admit, I really enjoyed talking to and learning from the handlers and seeing the bears interact and play I the water etc.
