We booked a trip with Galant outside of our Cruise ship to get a better experience. We (Mom and Dad) toured Sitka Sound & Redoubt Bay with 3 children and 1 Grandmother with Paul of Gallant Tours. We saw Gray and Humpback Whales, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, And Bald Eagles. Paul is owner and operator of Gallant Tours. He is a native Alaskan and has a network of tour guides that work the sound together to ensure their guests have the best experience. They have a unique relationship that puts them on the top of the Sitka tour industry. Paul customized our tour based on our requests based on options he provided on the spot. He was a great host and I would recommend him highly to anyone in Sitka, Alaska for a few hours. We had already done a whale watching tour in Juneau days before but our experience with Paul Gallant will be what we remember for a lifetime. Gray and Humpback whales, Bubble net feeding, and feeding in kelp. It was a terrific day. Thanks Gallant Adventures.
Oh man, that was a fun morning and we sure saw lots of different things! It was a windy day and the ocean was too rough for St. Lazaria Island we were forced to stay inside the islands. I remember being a bit nervous because the whale action had been a little slow for the past few days and I was hoping that the wind didn’t hinder our wildlife viewing too much, but we managed to have an awesome tour as per usual! That solo bubble-netting humpback sure was fun to watch! And that gray whale was also pretty special! And then there was that other humpback working super close to shore inside a dense kelp patch! Good times! Thanks again for the 5star review, I really appreciate it and I hope to see your nice family again sometime!
My husband, teen daughter, and I spent a wonderful morning with Paul and two other guests (both Candace!) last week.
It was so fun to get out on the water and see the wildlife. Paul is an excellent guide and super fun. He is patient with both the passengers and the animals. I had a blast, but the best thing about the day was when my daughter said, “this is the BEST THING WE’VE EVER DONE!” Y’all!!! My teenage daughter had fun with her parents!! Now that’s a win!!
Hi Melisa! Thanks for taking the time to write me a 5 star review!! Your daughter was having a blast and your commentary above is hilarious! Hey, if a teenage daughter can have the time of her life with her parents, then you KNOW it’s a fun tour!! All joking aside, you have a nice little family and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you a bit and show you some of the things that makes Sitka special! I hope you have a great summer and look forward to seeing you next time!
Excellent Experience. Paul was extremely knowledgeable & provided us with a Great tour. Highly recommend this as it was the highlight of our Cruise/Travels on this Trip with my family.
Pizza Rambo John J,
I’m not quite sure I know who this is, but my instincts tell me I have a good idea. If I’m correct, you weren’t raised by Colonel Trautman like Rambo was, but Trautman always said that he wasn’t saving you from pizza, he was saving the pizza from YOU! Thanks for writing me a 5 star review PizzaRambo, and I’m happy to hear that you had a good time and that you weren’t treated like a drifter and forced into the Tongass Rainforest. See you next time, John J!
Harrison: My Nana took my sisters and me, my mother and my cousin to Sitka for a week. She booked Gallant adventures, and told me we would see whales, and hopefully puffins. I saw a lot more than I ever dreamed in just a few hours. Our captain, Paul, taught us about whales, sea otters and their babies, a huge sea lion, two kinds of puffins, murres, and other birds on the island. He even showed us bulb kelp and how to make it sound like a horn. We went in a cave as far as we could, and I saw the sea stars, and anemones along the shoreline. This was an adventure I will never forget. If you ever get to Sitka, you must go on a tour with Gallant adventures.
It was awesome!! Thank you Paul for Making this trip so special.
Wow, Harrison, I’m so happy to hear from you and that sure was a really thoughtful review that you wrote for me. I keep thinking about what a nice family you guys are and the fact that you went out of your way to write me a review just adds evidence to support those thoughts! I also excited to say that you are my youngest reviewer OF ALL TIME (HS senior was the old record-you destroyed that, Bud!)!! I’m also impressed with your ability to communicate your thoughts in writing, and that’ll take you a long way if you stay diligent. It was my absolute pleasure meeting you and I’m happy to hear that you had a blast. Have a great summer and I hope to see you again sometime!!
During our two weeks in Alaska we had four offshore excursions and one river tour. Gallant Adventures was the best, and it wasn’t close. Captain Paul is personable and knowledgeable, and he delivered more wildlife encounters than the rest combined. Starting with picturesque island scenery, thru over two dozen eagle nests, to sea lions, puffins, many other ocean birds and multiple whale encounters. Alaska vacations usually have lots of events. Put this on the top of your list.
It’s great to hear from you and I’m actually quite honored that you had such a good time on our 5hr Extended tour together on May 28th! We even saw a brown bear on that tour in addition to all the other stuff! Hey, you just never know what you’re going to see out there. Some days are hotter than others when it comes to wildlife and ocean conditions, but even a “poor day” by Sitka standards produces more varied wildlife than you can see in most places. Add the gorgeous scenery to the mix and then you see why my boat tour is probably more fun than anything else you can do while in Sitka! Thanks for taking the time to write me a review and I hope to see you in Sitka again sometime!!
My husband and I went on a wildlife tour while in Sitka. It was by far the best part of our trip. I saw a whale (def on my bucket list) with her calf within the first hour. We also saw sea otters, seals, bears, all kinds of birds etc. Paul is very knowledgeable about the the wildlife, the ecosystem, and about Sitka in general. He’s got a great personality and his boat is really nice and warm (If needed). I’ll never forget sea otters have one million hair follicles per one square inch. We’ll be back to do another tour with him next year- he’s excellent.
Oh it is so good to hear from you and I had a FABULOUS time with you and Bill on your Private 5hr tour a week or so ago! It wasn’t the best day conditions wise, but we still had a blast and this day just goes to show that even “the worst days” around Sitka are still amazing. I always play my tours by ear and when you mentioned that you had been looking at remote properties, it gave us an angle to exploit! It was so fun looking at the floathouses and cool island properties that you had researched or that I had known about. Anyway, I hope to see you 2 up here again and maybe we’ll be neighbors! See you then!
