If you're looking for a FAB tour - call Captain Jim Seeland. He's a marine biologist who runs this tour in the summer. Not only is the tour enjoyable but educational. We came away with a far better knowledge on what it takes to raise healthy salmon. We also saw whales, seals, eagles and TONS of salmon. The boat carries 6 people so consider this a private tour. He's so knowledgeable and interesting that we hated for the tour to end. Great for the whole family. We took 5 excursions and this was by far one of the best.

Thank you Captain Jim for the great experience.

If your are into wildlife and learning at the same time, this is the tour for you. Jim is a trained wildlife expert with a passion for the wildlife. You can't help to share his enthusiasm for the wildlife you see. Jim goes out of his way to make sure you see the most wildlife. Part of our tour was darting across the sound to pursue some humpback whales. The behind the scenes Fish Hatchery tour is something you don't get on other tours.

If you want a tour with a small group of people from a wildlife biologist, then Sitka Sound Tours is for you. Captain Jim Seeland greeted 6 of us at Crescent Harbor and we boarded his 27" boat. Jim is a retired Fisheries Biologist and on the way out he stopped by a purse seiner boat and explained it's operation. We soon saw humpback whales and Captain Jim turned of the engines, and you could hear the whales breathing deeply before diving. We also saw numerous sea otters and seals as Jim took us to locations to see all the wildlife available. His tour included St. Lazaria Island (see the photo) were we enjoyed seeing sea birds especially tufted puffins (our first). This wild island also provides views of the volcanic Mt. Edgecumbe. Captain's Seeland's love of the sea and showing people around is obvious, and I know you'll enjoy a tour with him.

By chance I called Sitka Sound Tours, and we were setup with Judson. He grew up in Sitka and was an absolute wealth of information and an incredible tour guide. Our tour with Judson was probably at the top of the list for our visit.

My husband and I booked this excursion with Jim Seeland and were not disappointed. He was very friendly and informative and definitely wanted us to have a positive experience. There were six of us and this is so much better than being on a larger boat for wildlife viewing. As luck and tenacity would have it, we spotted a whale and "chased" it a bit only to have him surface VERY close to us! Very exciting and a few great photos! It made our day!. Would like to have seen otters a little closer but we had a great time on the boat taking in charming Sitka Sound.
