Awesome rustic getaway... just what you need when in Alaska. I couldn't have been happier!! The lighthouse was a spectacular place to stay! One night we got lucky and it rained, so my daughter and I climbed to the very top floor and slept with the rain and wind and 360 degree views. It was the best!!

We just got back last night from 3 days 2 nights at this newly refurbished Rockwell lighthouse. There was myself and my husband, and his sister and her husband. Four of us went there for an adventure filled weekend. When we got there, we canceled all of our plans and decided to enjoy the lighthouse and limit our time away from it. We barbecued and ate on the deck, we used the hot tub, we used the four kayaks… We just relaxed and had an amazing time. There was a Eagles nest right off the deck that we watched. We saw seals, see lions, doll porpoises… And probably 300 Eagles. The lighthouse is beautifully refurbished. And very inviting. The kitchen was stocked with so much food that the groceries we brought, half was not even necessary. It had everything from razors to mouthwash to toothpaste and curling iron‘s! There’s so many different areas of the lighthouse to just sit in and relax. We liked to sit in the very top and have cocktails and have a gorgeous 360° view of the amazing Sitka sound. Teal, the owner, goes out of her way to make you feel at home. Texting us throughout the days to make sure there wasn’t anything we needed. We loved it so much, that we contacted her within hours of leaving and booked it for next year already!
I really could go on and on… There’s baskets of blanket so you can sit outside and not get cold. There’s a few different decks… Like the small one with the round table and a rocking bench on it that we sat on in the morning for coffee. The main deck where the barbecue is has beautiful sunshine for dinner time. There’s many many windows in the lighthouse so if you’re inside due to rain or whatever, you still have great views. We were lucky enough to have two gorgeous days of perfect home sunshine… The day we left, it was raining but that did not matter we still had smiles on our faces. We used the skiff to go into town. And the water taxi was prompt and easy for us to get to and from with our luggage.

You're staying in a lighthouse, in Sitka Alaska. You could be sleeping on rocks and still have a good time.
You also get to meet Burgess, a local legend and character straight out of Moby Dick.
The house is old, quirky, uncomfortable and in need of a lot of TLC. It's basically your grandmothers house after she stopped caring about fixing anything or repainting.
It's easier to count the things that aren't broken in the house, than the things that are.
That all said, everything you need works fine, the property is spectacular. Burgess sets you up and also sets your expectations. This is not a 5 star, white glove service hotel. This is a house that you are renting...that is on an island...and has a freaking lighthouse attached to it.
We loved every quirky minute of it.
The beds are comically uncomfortable. The one true bed has a slant to it, but we all slept fine and didn't really have any true complaints. 2 - 60 year olds, 1 - 50 year old, 1 - 30 year old and 1 - 18 year old. No one had a bad time.
Word to the wise, stock up on groceries before heading over. Bring some binoculars and an open mind.
This will be a stay you won't soon forget, and may not be available for much longer.

Room tip: You can sleep on the top floor...where the light in the lighthouse would be normally. 365 degree view! but you do have to make it up and down the stairs...

We spent last weekend at the Rockwell Lighthouse. The owner takes you out to the island and then shuttles you once a day into town. He is very nice The house itself is quite old and in need of some real TLC. It is very quirky and fun, but a thorough cleaning is greatly needed. If you can look past the cobwebs, cracked tiles, and broken furniture, it is an awesome treat to stay at this lighthouse. The hot tub is in need of repair, and the wood stove has been taken out with the stack still left hanging. The windows are quite old, so even tho we tried to clean them up, the best views were from the deck. The bathrooms are only on the main floor where sleeping would be on a pull out sofa, and on the 3rd floor with bunk beds. The main bedroom is in the middle. The steps are steep but we thoroughly enjoyed climbing into the cupola a few times a day to enjoy the incredible view. The island is only 1 mile off of shore. You can watch airplanes land at the airport as well as view spectacular views of Sitka Sound. All in all, it has tons of potential, and even as is, is a fun place to stay. Take your own binoculars and enjoy the experience!

Beautifully built lighthouse, with enough room for a decent group of 6-10 people. Went there with a close friends (couple) and my husband. Enjoyed every moment of it. The owner is very eccentric indeed, but very easy fellow to get along with. He let us use a skiff to travel to town and back for more supplies when we needed (there somehow was never enough wine...) so we did get to explore the cute town of Sitka. Overall, an amazing experience. Would've given 5 stars, but the hot tub doesn't work anymore, and it doesn't sound like he ever plans on fixing it.
