“Very good place to stay”
Reviewed July 15, 2008

I do not know what the negativity concerning this hotel is about. Our room was excellent. In fact, my spouse said that it was as good a room as one at a more expensive Hilton where she had recently stayed. Yes, no free breakfast, but the restaurant's was excellent and reasonable. (I think that free breakfasts are overrated anyway.) Yes, we paid over $100, but it was July 4th. (Staying here put us a couple of blocks from the fireworks and Luray has really upgraded itself. It has a lovely art warehouse.) We would certainly recommend this hotel to relatives and friends.

Not a bad property, but cost too much for what was provided. No breakfast, restaurant was not open at night. Breakfast at restaurant was good, but you had to pay for it. Cost over $100 per night with AAA discount.

We stayed at this hotel for one night, as it is really close to Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. It is definitely an older property with outside balconies, etc. Check-in staff was polite. The room was somewhat small, with 2 double beds instead of queens. But it was clean, with a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Furnishings, carpet, etc. looked fairly new. The air conditioner worked well, and was quiet enough. One minor annoyance was that the bathroom door had to be pulled really tight to close it, but it was really no big deal. The shower head was one of those old types that almost hurt, but there was plenty of hot water! Just watch the drain, as they are those that are a little tricky to keep open. We didn't use (or even see) the pool, because it was late and too cold (pool is outdoors) when we arrived. We left early, so we didn't have the breakfast. Considering all we did was sleep and shower, this place met our needs fine.

This is a really shabby BW. We have stayed in a lot of them and they are generally good VFM and of a good standard. This hotel has definitely seen better days (and they were a long time ago). The room was shabby and the facilities, such as they were, were tired.
Luray itself is a strange town and the Shenandoah was a real let down - so I would recommend giving the whole area a miss...

We stayed here one night while visiting Shenandoah National Park. The Best Western was an older hotel, but fairly clean -- a little noisier than what we would have liked. We had requested a frig/microwave - which we got; however, the frig was plugged into a wall operated by the light switch - which we didn't discover until the next morning when our contents weren't cold. So don't turn off the light via the switch. The next morning a fuse or transformer blew and we only had one light by the sink to use until it was repaired. Price was reasonable enough - but on our next trip, we will be trying The Cardinal Inn in Luray (which we had read good reviews on and even though it wasn't a name-brand hotel, it actually was very cute and looked meticulously clean.)

  • Liked — close to national park
  • Disliked — needs a note re: frig plug-in

I would definitely stay at the Best Western Luray again. It was simple but very clean and the beds were comfortable. The room had a microwave and mini fridge which was great since we brought lots of snacks and drinks for the kids. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was very kid friendly. Also, it was easily accessible for my daughter who is in a wheelchair. The staff were extremely polite and friendly. On top of all that it is conveniently located near Luray Caverns.

The hotel is small and older but well kept. The bed and sheets were clean and comfortable. The outdoor pool was clean and appealing. The restaurant had a very good breakfast but was not complimentary. Very convenient to all of the sites but Luray is small enough that all of the area hotels/motels would be pretty much convenient.
