“lovely stop-off”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

We enjoyed a very nice stay here at Mayne View and it was an excellent stopping-off point on our journey. It is old-fashioned, in the best sense, and the hosts are gracious and charming. Breakfast was excellent and because we and the other two guests were sat around a large table, served in a friendly atmosphere. Perhaps on reflection we should have spent more time here, exploring the Shenandoah Valley and the caverns or taking a hiking trail: but as it was, we had a very peaceful night and woke to a spectacular view of the mountains and tempting smells from the kitchen. Thoroughly recommended.

My husband and I enjoyed a peaceful, restful night at the MayneView B&B in Luray, during a vacation in Shenandoah Nat'l Park. The hosts were very helpful with dining information and hiking trail info, the breakfast was delicious, and our room / bathroom were clean and comfortable.

We were visiting Shenandoah and had been looking into getting a cabin at the Skyland Resort in the park.

Cabin w/taxes: $120
Mayneview w/taxes: $109

With the cabin you get a private bathroom and not much else. The Mayneview is only a few minutes off Skyline Drive and has so many great amenities. The hot tub was great after hiking Old Rag and the included breakfast in the morning was really above and beyond.

We would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I just returned from spending 2 nights at the Greentree Inn. From other reviews I expected to walk a block to get our breakfast at the MayneView B&B, but that is not what happened. John, who is the property manager, not the owner, was fantastic. We stayed a Mon & Tuesday, so it turned out that we were the only guests at the Greentree. This turned out to our advantage, as we had the whole place to ourselves. The decor is country meets Victorian. It is very cozy. If you are looking for elegant, is this not the place. If you want to feel cozy and at home, you will like this. I expected to walk a block for the buffet breakfast at the Maynetree, but John came in both mornings to fix breakfast for us, and both days it was great (and way too much for me to eat, my husband had to help me -- delicious).

We stayed in the Willow Room on the 1st floor -- the bathroom is not en suite, however, this was not a detraction for us. The other rooms are upstairs and have the bathroom/shower en suite, however, we really liked the downstairs. We are very active 55-year-olds, and just wanted comfort, which we got. If you are infirm, stay in the Willow Room, which is on the first floor. The stairs are very narrow to get upstairs, so you have to be stable.

A happy surprise that wasn't noted on the website was a hot tub, which fits 2.

I liked the location of this B&B, as we had dinner at the Mislyn Inn both nights and it was a very short walk. If you go there, be sure to get their sandwiches and entrees that feature pork. My husband had the Pork & Ham sandwich and said it was great. On the 2nd night I had the Pulled Pork sandwich and it was the best I've had anywhere, (and I love pork so I order this a lot). The sauce is vinegar based with some heat. Really good, loved it.

Room Tip: Very gracious host. Slept well, bed is comfortable. I loved the Willow Room, if you are infirm, th...

My family and I rented the entire house for a weekend this July. My cousin was getting married and we wanted a place where we could all be together and hang out and enjoy each others company because we only see each other a few times a year. MayneView was perfect for us. We looked through the pictures on the website and were able to figure out which rooms would best accommodate which family members. There were 3 young children and not everyone had a spouse. The room where my husband and I stayed had a bathroom and shower. It was spacious and not cluttered. The shower was surprisingly powerful and we never ran out of hot water. The rooms were clean. Since most of drove in from out of town we all had cooler with snacks and beverages in them. The house had several small, dorm style refrigerators for us to use. There were coffee makers and microwaves available as well. Each bedroom has its own air conditioning window unit so we were able to keep our room comfortable. Each bedroom also had its own name and a lock with a key we could take with us if we left the house. (We did not lock our rooms because we knew everyone staying there). The breakfast was very good and had some variety from quiche to cereal. The owners were able to give us a discounted rate for the caverns, we saved $4 a person. The house is within walking distance to the restaurants in town. If we ever return to Luray we will definitely be staying at the MayneView!

This B&B was a great find! It has a lovely location on top of a hill overlooking Luray. Has fridge and MW upstairs and downstairs. Owners love pets. Good breakfast of blueberry waffles, sausage, yogurt parfait, etc. Free cider, softdrinks, water, snacks.

Craving some R&R as well as some sights to see, we headed down to Luray, VA, to take in the Luray Caverns, go ATV riding, enjoy the Shenandoah Mountain vistas and trails, and poke around the town itself with its cute spots to eat and many antique shops. We wanted a place we could retreat to in between to enjoy our downtime, and we opted for a bed & breakfast instead of a hotel so we could help ourselves to a slice of small-town country charm and hospitality.

We set our sights on the Mayneview after poking around on TripAdvisor. Admittedly we had not stayed at a bed & breakfast in America (only once abroad), so we don't have a basis for comparison; but we absolutely loved our time at the MayneView - from the bed in the Lancelot Room to the breakfasts expertly and lovingly prepared (fanciest we've ever had), and everything in between. The house is big, with lovely decor and many nice sitting rooms, complete with things like board games and books and DVDs to amuse ourselves on a rainy day (of which there were a fair amount during our May stay).

Hospitality was never in short supply. Proprietors Paul and Sally are so friendly and accommodating, by the end of our sojourn we really felt as though we'd stayed with family. And of course, Molly the house cat also made us feel very welcome - so cute and good natured, so highly pet-able. (Take note, those poor souls who are allergic to felines.) We miss them all very much!

Outside, the grounds are scenic and pleasant, with wide swaths of lush green grass against which the outdoor cats (also friendly) look so beautiful. There is a big porch on which to sit and gaze at the nice view of the peaks in the distance. It's all so tranquil. And of course, the view is also good from the outdoor hot tub. (mmm...hot tub)

We enjoyed our time at the B&B just as much if not more than our adventures exploring the town itself and we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: The Lancelot room is one of the smaller ones, but it is quiet and comfortable.
