“Romantic Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed March 24, 2012

Our weekend at Once Upon a Mountain was fabulous. The views are incredible and the area is beautiful. Our room was warm and cozy and the food was delicious. The real treat was spending time with and getting to know Christa. She is a gracious host, an interesting person and a wonderful cook.

We have stayed many places, but our stay at Once Upon a Mountain was one of the most delightful experiences we have ever had at a Bed and Breakfast. If you are ever in the area this is a must stay!

Once Upon a Mountain is a retreat from the hectic pace of life. You enter the calm, inviting home of Christa and immediately feel at peace. The surroundings enhance the experience set in the hills, distant from noise and commotion. It was raining while we were there so we didn't get to experience relaxing outdoors, but I know we will be back to savor it.
The rooms are spacious and light filled and comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious and Christa has many great suggestions for activities in the vicinity.

My wife and I spent a night and parts of adjacent days at this beautiful B and B just outside Luray, VA. We went with another couple we know well, and met a third couple who were staying there - we had an excellent if too brief visit.

Christa LeClere keeps a wonderful place - the log house is totally comfortable and new, her cooking is excellent, and the location has a wonderful view of the Blue Ridge from every room.

There's enough to do and eat after breakfast in Luray - but not much impulse to leave the top of the mountain. Go there - you'll like it.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for Valentine's Day weekend. It was just lovely! The rooms are beautiful - we stayed in the Queen's Suite (I think?). Had an awesome deck and sweet jacuzzi bath. Breakfast, cooked by Christa, was delicious! Pancakes, fruit, croissant, coffee...all waiting at 9am. It snowed a bit while we were here so that was beautiful. The house is absolutely beautiful and HUGE! 2 dogs will keep you company if you like. My FAV part was the outdoor jacuzzi. On a cold winter night, that's really amazing with a view of the mountain. We will definitely be going back here. I really loved it. Only negative: sting bugs everywhere! But Christa has a zapper. :)

Room Tip: make sure you get directions from here. navigation is wrong.

We stayed at Once Upon a Mountain B&B for three nights in the early spring when it’s still chilly, but we really enjoyed the views of the surrounding mountains and waking up to the crisp mornings of fresh mountain air! The cabin is furnished in a rustic motif. Has fully equipped kitchen, dining area and breakfast will be ready for you when you wake up. A fire pit is located in the backyard which is a great place to make memories while having a marshmallow roast. Lots of attractions and shops nearby including amazing Luray caverns. We will be back again soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a Queen's Suite. It's the best in the house.

We were looking for a quiet weekend away to celebrate our anniversary--to relax, unplug the phones and laptops, forget scheduling and To Do Lists, enjoy each other's company and the mountains. Once Upon a Mountain let us achieve that. Christa was on vacation but Betsy was a stellar representative. She was friendly, took great care of the room, is a great cook, and brought Tinkerbell, a great doggy addition to the household. We stayed in the Sleeping Beauty suite, which had windows and a balcony facing the clearing and mountains. Our first morning, we woke up to a light coating of snow and a pretty fog hovering halfway up the mountains in the distance. Gorgeous! We visited the caverns on Saturday morning and then took advantage of the house and views to picnic in the living room in front of the fireplace, enjoying our own wines, cheeses, snacks while reading and napping on the couch. It felt like home--only a big log cabin with gorgeous views in the middle of nowhere. Just be aware, being in the woods means wildlife will find a way to intrude. We got dozens of stinkbugs all over the bedroom and bathroom, day and night. Otherwise, the room was perfect.
We ate at the Artisan Grill the first night--I wouldn't recommend it. While the prices were OK, the food was below the quality of a regular diner. We had a delicious meal the next night at the Blue Rock Inn--highly recommend it. A bit expensive, but good quality, service and wines.
Overall, we'd like to return in the fall when the leaves are turning.

We stayed just one night with Christa begining of October but we liked it very much. The B&B has a nice view and our room was very cozy. Christa baked Brownies for us when we came back from town, they were delicious. We recommend this B&B to all our friends and hope to be back one day. Thank you Christa!
