“Beautiful historic inn with great service”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We stayed here for 4 nights beginning August 6 to be near the NP and other attractions. The stay began on a great note when the front desk informed us we were upgraded because of our length of stay. We were put in a Skyline Suite-the largest Room it was immaculate and spacious, we were with our kids, suite here means they are sleeping on a sofa bed. Water pressure great in shower, some extra toiletries given as compared to other hotels. Three closets, so all our luggage could be put out of our way. Two flat screen TVs, wifi worked well. Coffee, muffins and juice available at lobby bar every morning. The pool and hot tub were clean and the area was pretty, kids used the gym, they liked it. We ate at the Speakeasy one night, food was very good fresh pub fare. There was a live musician, seems like there is entertainment most nights. We had no trouble parking, even on the Friday evening as was mentioned in other reviews, but we returned to the inn before dinner hour. We did a wine tasting that was very nice. We had great service from the bartender John that did the tasting and from our waiter, who I believe was Justin. The doormen were also friendly and pleasant, I had a few different minor needs and the front desk was kind and accommodating. There is a pretty sun room on the third floor of the hotel. Not sure why some other people have previously complained about service or quiet hours in the hotel, you are there to relax. Highly recommend this hotel. You can walk to town as well. The coffee could be stronger per my family coffee drinkers and I would have liked to have tea offered in the am(I don't drink coffee)

Recently restored old hotel. Beautiful restoration. We had a modest sized room-got there at 5 and left at 7 the next morning so room work fine. Quiet, clean with large bath. Comfortable bed. Dinner on the front porch in rather perfect weather was very good. Staff all responsive and attentive.

Room Tip: We had an upper floor room. Quiet but not so good if you have ambulation issues.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Mimslyn Inn in Luray, Va. We found the Inn on line through TripAdvisor's website. We were en route to Charlottesville and wanted to stay somewhere en route near the Luray Caverns/Skyline Drive. It was the perfect location to celebrate a special anniversary. The Inn is totally impressive when you drive up the circular drive. It is at the top of a huge hill and is a gracious southern plantation styled hotel with huge pillars and a huge front porch. Dining and lounging on rockers and swings are available on the front porch. We were greeted by a wonderful gentleman who directed us to reception. Our reservations were handled beautifully several weeks prior to our stay by Renee. We were greeted by reception and given our keys to Room 225 overlooking the beautiful entryway. The hotel was built in 1931. It was renovated by its new owners in early 2000. The lobby is lovely with a piano, bar, sitting areas and Circa 31 dining room to the left. There is another restaurant/bar--Speakeasy, on the lower level and we had dinner there. Our entrees were delicious and the restaurant offered a nice bottle of wine for only $10. The hotel also gave us a coupon for a 10%discount on our entrees. Lovely dinner and wined. Great service. The grounds were gorgeous--a small but lovely pool out back and beautifully landscaped grounds with gazebos, swings, hammocks, gardens etc. to relax, unwind, read etc. There is a spa, exercise equipment on the lower level. The upper floor of the hotel - floor 3 - offers a lovely enclosed sunroom with a fireplace that opens to a lovely open-aired viranda with an outside fireplace that overlooks the pool and gardens. Our room was decorated very tastefully and was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable. We reserved a champagne breakfast for the next morning in Circa 31 Restaurant. It was a delicious and beautifully presented buffet breakfast featuring an omelette table with roast beef, belgium waffles with whipped cream and sugared apples, bacon, sausage, lots of salads, lots of fresh fruit, and many other offerings. The dessert table was beautiful. Great coffee! You had a choice of champagne, mimosa, punch etc. All this for $14.99pp. The dining room service was impeccable and the decor outstanding. In the lobby, music was being played on the piano for the breakfast as well as the evening before during happy hour. One of the bar staff, Crystal, was very helpful providing us with information about the menus, drinks, hotel in general. She is a valuable employee!! After a very comfortable and relaxing and restful night, we departed after our champagne brunch for a beautiful drive nearby on the Skyline Drive heading south to Charlottesville. If you are in the area of Luray, do yourself a favor and stop at the Luray Caverns (very worthwhile) and stay at the memorable Mimslyn Inn in Luray. We highly recommend it and we will definitely be back. This is a AAA aproved and Historic Hotel member. AAA discounts apply to the rate. Joan and David Deuch, Brecksville, Ohio

Room Tip: Our room faced the front of the building overlooking the expansive lawn/shrubbery area. We were in...

A beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. We stayed in the Blue Ridge Suite, which was very comfortable with plenty of room. We had an issue with our door not locking when we left the suite but the staff could not have been more helpful in solving the problem quickly and efficiently. The food in The Speakeasy Bar and Restaurant was fantastic, as was the Prohibition Pomegranate Martini! Thorougly enjoyed the live music that was playing during dinner - the band was called Valley Vibe. I would have liked to have seen oatmeal offered as an option with the breakfast buffet, but that's my only gripe.

As we were taking relatives to Luray Caverns in June, we passed by the imposing Mimslyn Inn on Main Street. With our wedding anniversary coming up, we decided to spend it at the Inn. We weren't disappointed. The Inn, built in 1931 and lavishly decorated, was delightful. Although we didn't partake, there is an outdoor pool and spa, exercise room, atrium and deck. There are two restaurants, the more formal Circa 31 upstairs and the Speakeasy downstairs. We had dinner on the front porch while watching the sun set behind the nearby mountains. Our room was decorated with very nice period furniture, as is the entire hotel. The staff, from the front desk to the doorman, to the waitresses, were first rate and eager to please. The restaurants definitely draw customers on their own, so consider the Mimslyn if you're looking for some excellent food and service while in Luray. We will definitely be back to the Mimslyn.
.

Room Tip: If the weather is nice, be sure to eat outside on the front porch.

Pulled up and a band was playing John Fogarty on the porch - my kind of place. From the enthusiastic doorman, to the charm of the decor, to the excellent biscuits and gravy in the dining room, this is a fantastic place to stay after exploring Shenandoah National Park. I'll be back!
