“Outstanding boutique hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

We experienced friendly and excellent service from the moment we checked in. The staff was attentive. The hotel lobby is very nicely decorated! The room was simply clean in addition to being well appointed and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean. The housekeepers seem to take pride in their work and the room was meticulously prepared. We arrived on a Friday night and ate a late dinner at the Speak Easy Lounge and we were impressed by the quality and taste of the food that we ordered and the servers were quite attentive. The lunch buffet at the Circa ’31 was deliciously prepared. The prices in both hotel restaurants are quite reasonable. The warm muffins at the complimentary continental breakfast were tasty, but get there early since they do run out by mid-late morning (at least on the weekend we were there). Plus, I wish they would have hot tea available, too, instead of just coffee and orange juice.

One thing that we really appreciated is the Hotel policy regarding extraneous noise between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. and it is enforced. This alone helped to make the overnight stay restful. The common areas (the upstairs outdoor terrace with gas fireplace and the sunroom with comfy sofas and gas fireplace come to mind) are inviting. Unfortunately, it was winter (February), so we could only appreciate the hot tub and pool from afar. Wi-fi worked fine.

The hotel is only a block away from what looks to be “downtown” Luray. There are a couple of great restaurants there (I recommend Gathering Grounds!). There is a very nice greenway that cuts through downtown and you can walk north or south from the main drag. The Luray information booth at a renovated train station is a source of much information regarding the locality and its events. Overall, our experience at the Mimslyn Inn was excellent. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are going back in April!

The hotel is very pretty and is in a great location if you want to go to the Luray Caverns (they're pretty cool). Upon checking in, the receptionist said our Groupon number wasn't correct so we'd have to fix it before checking in. Their Wifi wasn't working but she didn't seem to care- luckily my smartphone worked or we would've had to pay full price. She wasn't helpful at all in this matter but was pleasant enough. The Wifi never worked over our 3 days there.

The room was very clean and well appointed but small (the hotel was built in the 1930s). We slept well but the second morning we were there, we could hear an alarm clock going off next door early in the morning. I called the front desk but it took them 45 minutes and a second phone call to solve the problem. Also, the "complimentary breakfast" was a joke. It was supposed to be open until 10:30 yet when we got there at 9:00, everything was already gone. They had a couple pots of coffee, some juice, and a dinner plate of crumbs- I assume they were muffins. Not a big deal, just don't advertise it if you're not serious about serving it,

Overall the hotel was very nice (as is the town of Luray) but the service was definitely lacking.

Like some other reviewers, I was treated indifferently on the phone when the person heard I was reserving with a Living Social voucher. When we arrived, though, everyone was very nice and friendly. The lobby and dining room are very elegant. The standard room was rather small, but nicely furnished and the bathroom was very nice. Everything was clean. They advertise these as modestly sized rooms, so don't complain when that is what you get! There is a pretty strict quiet time policy, and we were impressed by how quiet is was. We had dinner in the Speakeasy Lounge, which was good, and pretty reasonably priced. We had a nice little getaway. I have to say at the Living Social price it was a good deal. I don't think I would pay full price though.

We just happened upon the Inn as we were traveling to Luray Caverns. We arrived late in the evening and the few people we encountered in town all recommended the Inn.

Almost didn't go in to ask a price but did. The ladies at the desk where very helpful and were able to discount a room to a rate we could splurge on. It was well worth it. We stayed in suite 301. The kids had a ball with the jetted tub and sleeping in the king bed with me. Poor Dad got the couch in front of the electric fireplace, but he was happy enough.

Highly recommend spending a few extra dollars on this one.

I normally stay in budget-friendly hotels when I travel, but my stay here was courtesy of a LivingSocial deal (which included free souvenir wine glasses and tickets to Luray Caverns) and a generous gift (which allowed me to upgrade to a Blue Ridge Suite). This was almost everything I was hoping for, with just a few caveats. Courteous and friendly staff, jetted tub, fireplace in our room (which was remote control and not really a focal point for us...we watched TV after turning it on and kind of forgot it was there) - and the location is convenient to everything.

If I had anything to complain about, it was that the pillows were too fluffy (neck strain) and the free muffins in the morning were pretty much dry and tasteless. Plus, it's right next to a hospital, so we heard a lot of ambulances (fortunately, none in the middle of the night). But overall, this was one of the best hotel experiences I've had. This is a beautiful place with very clean and well-appointed rooms. We were just a few doors down from the lobby, but it wasn't disruptive to us in the slightest while we were in our room. Thankfully, the other guests respected the hotel's quiet hours, so it was a relatively peaceful stay.
