(Rating just dropped from a 5 to an average 3). I just left Friday night happy hour disappointed to see that our favorite bartender Jim is no longer working at the Speakeasy. I have watched Jim tend bar there for the past few years. He was wonderful with both the locals and tourists -- always happy, professional and courteous. A great ambassador for the town of Luray and the Mimslyn. Such a loss!

We stumbled upon this gem by pure chance while on a trip down the skyline drive. The speakeasy is on the lower floor of the Mimslyn Inn. You could easily miss it. The menu has ample choice. The food is plentiful, well presented, tasty and reasonably priced. Not fancy.. Just good, well prepared food. The one suggestion I would offer would be to develop a better bread basket with either a variety of buns or a signature bread. The apple pie with bourbon ice cream was worth the calorie expenditure.
Our server, Amber T was a delightful young lady. She was friendly attentive and knowledgeable. She gave us some good travel tips and was able to answer our questions about the area. Definitely a people person. Other staff were also friendly.
The over all atmosphere was upbeat and relaxing. A major contribution to the ambiance was the floor show put on by two fine guitar players who sang a variety of songs and played requests from the audience including John Denver's country roads, and songs from the Beatles, the Eagles and many others. Music was at a nice volume.... not too loud. Altogether a most relaxing and enjoyable evening! I would definitely return and don't hesitate to recommend it.
