“Takes B&B to another level”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

We stayed at the Maple Shade for two nights during our son's rowing races on the lake. It was a busy weekend, but our time at the Maple Shade made it restful, restorative and fun. The B&B is meticulously maintained. Instead of the "ye oldey" creeps I sometimes get at B&Bs, this was luxury interpreted in fine furnishings, bedding and decor. The hosts were perfect. Though we didn't have a chance to get to know them as well as we liked due to our schedule, they were lovely and had that all-important trait of being there when you wanted them.

The B&B is 15 minutes out of Saratoga but a world away. It is very rural and beautiful. For us, a short walk was more restorative than a visit to the spa. The location was also perfect because we avoided horrendous traffic jams coming from the Saratoga Springs/87 side of the lake. You approach the lake from the other direction coming from the Maple Shade and there are no traffic concerns.

We went to the Maple Shade during the off season and found it to be very relaxing and quiet, just what we were looking for. The B&B was very clean and inviting. The host ( Tom and Joanne) made us feel like their home was our home for the weekend. They also provided us with helpful guidance to fill our weekend with activities and some history of Saratoga. With a guest kitchen stocked with snacks and beverages and with a hearty fresh breakfast every morning we were always satisfied. Joann made delicious warm muffins while Tom served up a hot breakfast for us. Coming home at night we had a candle lit lantern walk way to guide us from the parking area to the porch. This minor detail exceeded our expectations. The inn is not in the center of town but the 10 minute country route with lots of scenery is worth the short drive. Overall our stay at the Maple Shade bed and breakfast was the perfect getaway weekend and we were overly impressed by what we got for the rates this inn offered. Hope to return soon Jeff & Skila

The Maple Shade B&B is an incredible place. The hosts, JoAnn and Tom are warm, welcoming and make your contentment their overall priority. We stayed in the Yellow Room where the overstuffed pillows and very comfortable mattress made for a long night's sleep. The whole house is very clean and has a wonderful aroma about it (think Yankee Candle meets fresh made muffins). The breakfast was really, really good, we enjoyed Morning Glory muffins, fresh fruit salad (not heavy on the melon, thank goodness), omelet with cheese and veggies made to order, served with home fries, sausages and wheat toast. The guest kitchenette is a great touch, where more baked goods are to hand, as well as a Keurig with an assortment of K cups. We lingered after breakfast and read in front of the fire in one of the delightful public rooms. In short, we didn't want to leave this little gem, but alas, reality pulled us back onto the road.

Tom and Jo Ann are among the finest hosts we have had the pleasure to meet. Their Maple Shade B&B is exquisite, simply put. We just returned from four of the most pleasant days we have ever spent on vacation. Each room in this beautifully restored 19h century farmhouse has its' attractions. We had the only downstairs room which suited our needs perfectly. A few miles outside Stillwater The Maple Shade is quiet, very comfortable and within close proximity of the delights of Saratoga Springs. The immortal words "we shall return", come readily to mind.

Jo Ann is a wonderful, creative breakfast cook. Each morning we were surprised and pleased with the choices. She also cooks to order, which is a rare treat in our experience.

Upon our arrival, we were met by Tom who proved to be a most generous and gracious host. We were provided very good suggestions for dining and sightseeing. All in all, a perfect experience for us and one we would like to repeat.

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at The Maple Shade B&B. Tom and Joanne have great attention to all the little details that make their B&B stand out above the rest. Theirs is definitely one of our favorites. We loved the delicious breakfasts, fireplaces in the rooms, incredible view from the porch swing and beautifully decorated common areas. Unfortunately, we had to leave very early and Joanne very graciously got up early to accommodate our departure preparing a three course breakfast and then sending us off with extra homemade muffins for our four hour trip back home. The Maple Shade has the perfect combination of wonderful hosts, comfortable rooms and spectacular scenery. We would definitely stay here again.

Charming, Clean, Great Hosts and Tasty Breakfast.

About 5 - 10 minutes drive to Lake Saratoga.

About 20 minutes drive to Saratoga Springs. Nice drive along winding road. Scenic. Corn fields. Farms. Country homes. Mansions along Union Ave.

Saratoga Springs and Lake Saratoga have a lot to offer. Worth another visit and when we return, we will be sure to stay at Maple Shade B&B.

We stayed here in August to go to the race track for one day. i was really impressed how the place was redone. One has to admire the wood work done here. They have done a nice job of interior decorating here to give one a modern, but still a country feeling to this place. The breakfast was great and kept us going till dinner. Tom and Joanne are terrific, and very professional in how they go about this place they have here. Thank You Very Much.
