Quality Inn & Suites Thousand Oaks

This is a nice place if you need to stay over in Thousand Oaks, CA. It's a minute from the freeway (Moorpark exit off the 101) but far enough away so you don't hear it and it's clean and the breakfast wasn't bad (waffles, toast, bagels, cereal, hard boiled eggs, lowfat and reg. milk, juice, apples, etc). Nearby are restaurants and across the street is a Sears that had few customers on July 4. What's that about?

The bill for a king-sized bed was $84 inc. taxes using the AARP so the price was right.

The only complaint was that on July 1, the Board of Health shut down the pool. It looked clean and the front manager told us that the reason it was shut down was that there weren't enough signs posted such as "no lifeguard on duty." Huh? That sounded kind fishy (no pun intended) but my wife and I weren't going to test the waters to see what would happen. It would have been nice to have had Quality Inn:

1: Mention this stuff on the Inn's website.
2. Give us a discount. We asked for one but were denied. Hey this was a selling point. We could have gone to the Best Western closer to the freeway. We were told that we already had a discount with out AARP card. Sure but that discount was based on a working pool. In July, you want to be able to go swimming, especially when it's almost 90 degrees outside.

In closing, go for it but if it's hot, make sure the pool is working.

This recently refurbished hotel was very clean and extremely comfortable. The staff were very helpful and courteous and the location ws hard to beat. Close enough to the 101 freeway but nestled behind another hotel which gave it privacy and quiet.

Some rooms have patios facing very pretty gardens and it was nice to be able to sit and have breakfast in the sun. The breakfast was plentiful and fresh, if a little basic, but quite honestly you would be hard pushed to beat this hotel on value for money.

Beds are amazing. Comfortable and nice sheets

Spa was toasty but a little bubbly.

Breakfast was nice... had hot waffles and eggs available as well as cereal and OJ that was constantly being restocked.

Throughout the night the same car alarm would go off so that was a little annoying.

Ac is ICE cold which was really nice for me.

Internet is free and super fast.

Overall if you need a nice place to sleep and don't really care what the outside of it looks like then this is the place for you.

Don't use the heater b/c the smoke alarm might go off :)

We, at Quality Inn and Suites, are very pleased to know that you have enjoyed your stay with us. It is always very fulfilling and gratifying to receive positive feedback.

In regards to the car alarm, we hope that you will understand that it was out of our control and will not let that deter you from using the Quality Inn and Suites again. Our maintaince dept. have re-checked all the heaters so that the smoke alarms are not triggered.

Thank you once again for your kind comments and we hope to see you in future.

After 3 stays at the Quality Inn Thousand Oaks, I will not be returning. On my most recent stay I booked a room with a hot tub only to find that the hot tub drain would not stay closed, there were hairs on the intake screen, and the only shower/tub in the room was the hot tub (with no shower curtain and virtually inaccessible for those not physically agile enough to climb over its walls). (To the management’s credit, I was refunded the difference between a standard king room and a hot-tub room at departure.) On a previous stay a hot-tub room provided a separate tub/shower and many more towels. Physically challenged persons should be aware that there is no elevator and that the stairs are outside (not sheltered from rain). Internet service is not easily used (a password is required but not offered on check-in) and on one stay was not accessible. The level of cleanliness was not up to standards, with hairs on the bathroom floor. In one room, only one wastebasket was provided (others had two), and no alarm clock was present.

The continental breakfast offers no protein selection but boiled eggs and no cold drinking water. A suggestion to staff to add cold water to the breakfast was received positively, but a month later had not been implemented. Some rooms have entrances facing the parking lot (motel-style), while others face a well-landscaped central courtyard (these rooms are not separately reservable). Apparent construction workers are seen hanging out by their trucks, and can be rowdy outside of the doors that face the parking lot.

This hotel, unlike most in the nearby area, requires not only photo identification for credit card payment (which is reasonable) but requires such ID for cash transactions and insists on keeping a copy of the ID and credit card on the same color-photocopied page during the guest stay. This policy is not posted at the front desk or on the hotel’s website. There are clear security issues with this policy, yet when I asked for a copy of the hotel’s written privacy policy, available staff were unable to provide this for me that same day (a weekday at 3pm). The staff on hand was unable to justify their ID policy, even when I told them it made me feel mistrusted and unwelcome.

I return to this area monthly because I have family there. There are several establishments in Agoura Hills and Calabasas which, at least on weekends, provide higher-star accommodations for only $20-30 more per night without risk of unauthorized access to guest personal information. While the Quality Inn Thousand Oaks may be an adequate budget choice on weekdays, issues of access, cleanliness, safety and security make this an undesirable place to stay.

Saw their ad in one of those free "travel coupon" magazines and booked by phone as we needed to visit family in the area and didn't want to spend more than necessary. What a pleasant surprise! The premises, room interior, furniture, bedding, towels & toiletries, refrigerator & coffee maker -- everything was clean & comfy & tastefully decorated. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Continental breakfast very good. The pool is not heated, but by the time we were there (late June) it was perfectly warm enough to enjoy. We wished we could have stayed another day. The only downside was a couple of rather creepy looking men hanging around outside the pool enclosure smoking cigarettes.

After some horrific experiences at this property in its old pre-Quality Inn days, I watched the new management strip this property down to its bare concrete tilt-up walls and completely renovate from scratch. I wanted to give the new & improved motel a try.

This is a motel-style property with outward-facing rooms.

Front lobby staff were friendly, helpful, and pleasant.

They've made a valiant effort. The rooms, complete with crown molding and new furniture, have been completely re-done. My teen-ager appreciated the free wi-fi internet. We didn't try the free breakfast as we had plans with relatives in town, but I've heard that it's quite good (and more than just rolls and coffee).

There are curved shower rods and built-in hair dryers.

They've obviously kept the old bathtubs. There was plaster on the side of the tub, and the new porcelain overlay on the floor of the tub was already wearing through to the old layer. The A/C was a bit too noisy for us to keep it on all night. Luckily, the windows open and the night air could keep us cool.

The pool and gazebo are is nice.

I can't place my finger on why, but I couldn't get excited about this property. Perhaps it was the two just-ok pillows per bed (we like two each), perhaps it was something Spartan-seeming about the decor. The place is vastly improved now that it has been renovated, but we paid $100/night and I've seen lots better for less money.

Wonderful place to stay, room was clean and bathroom was wonderful with marble flooring. The area around hotel is so nice, a storybook community with everything you need within a mile as well as lots of nature. There are many restaurants and stores (Friday's within walking distance) a mall and the people in the city are awesome. To be honest this would be a great city to live in. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
