“Excellent Best Western. Great value.”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

I don't stay at many Best Westerns due to past experiences, but this one is a good find. It's an older property, but it looks like they just finished an overhaul (there was still some construction materials outdoors, and landscaping was underway). Service was great. Friendly and courteous. The lobby is updated and looks contemporary. There is a library with books and chairs, and there are free DVDs to use in the room. Our room had a DVD player and a large TV. The room itself was fresh and very nice. Lots of space, good pillows, and clean. Desk space was plentiful. Breakfast was included, and consisted of home made french toast (not the Costco bulk type), eggs, bacon, oat meal, cereal, etc. Pool was a little small, but clean and fun, and there is a hot tub. The center of the hotel has a landscaped, open courtyard with tables and chairs. Nice touch. Walking distance to food and Jamba Juice. Nice stay for the price.

We stayed here with our kids June 7-9. We were a little thrown off by the destroyed parking lot. There was a lot of construction going on as they are renovating. Although this was a little irritating at first, the room, the service, the amenities all made up for it. We enjoyed the perfect temperature pool and Jacuzzi as well as the very nice lounge area. The room was very nice and included a large flat screen tv with good cable channels and a dvd player! When they said breakfast was included, I expected the typical continental cereal and bagels. Not here! You get a ticket each morning to their restaurant where you get fresh cooked eggs, bacon, and French toast. There's bagels, muffins, bread, oatmeal, cereal, fresh fruit, apple and orange juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate... it's perfect! Another first for us- they offer free dvd movie rentals and free wifi! As a bonus, this hotel is very conveniently located near the fwy, gas stations, grocery stores, and to shopping malls.. including Starbucks ;) .. So like my title says, this was by far the best hotel experience we have had. I highly recommend this Best Western and will definitely stay here again!

The first contact a guest has is with the Desk Clerk. Our first impression was that we were dealing with someone who was very professional, and one who really cared about our comfort and needs. She took time to give us directions, printed a map, answered questions in an unhurried and patience manner and gave us helpful tips and suggestions on the general area and freeway traffic!

When we checked out the next morning we were greeted by the same friendly, professional Desk Clerk. My husband and I agree that our rating of "Excellent" at this Best Western is due to the reception by her from the time of arrival through departure. This particular Desk Clerk is definitely an ASSET to Best Western Plus Thousand Oaks Inn.

Because I booked through the internet, our first room was on the side of the hotel that picked up the freeway noise. We have stayed at this Best Western for several years and they were able to change us to a back room. Much quieter. Not too impressed with the eggs at breakfast, but it was included in the room rate. New faucets on the bathroom sinks would be difficult for anyone with arthritis--very hard to turn on and off.

The staff was very helpful and very professional. The property is older, but employees were working on the appearance of the facility. The restaurant was a disappointment, not clean and the restaurant staff catered to the male guests. Seating them for breakfast and then taking their orders and serving them. Where elderly people and women with children had to wait on themselves with no assistance from the staff.

We needed a place for an overnight on the way home from a week in Arizona for Spring Training baseball. Had a planned stop for a late lunch in Westminster/Garden Grove and wanted to be out of the LA commute traffic for our trip home on Monday 3/25. Thousand Oaks fit the ticket perfectly. The Best Western Plus Thousand Oaks Inn is just off 101. This is a historic property that dates back to the 60's but the rooms appear to have been redone pretty recently. (Another review said it perfectly "Dated but cared for facility"). Beautiful large lobby with marble floors. Wonderful friendly fellow at check-in made us feel like VIPs (older gentleman with white hair - didn't notice his name but he is a definite asset for the property).

Picked up a great tip from the Trip Advisor reviews of the property: ask for a room on an upper floor in the back of the property so you don't get the freeway noise. We did this and got room 311. It was perfect! Quiet, comfortable King bed, and lots of hot water for our morning showers.

Here's why I'm only giving 4 stars for Service:
Relatively minor quibbles: We've never come across a microwave we couldn't work but this one defied us. As we were only there for the night, we didn't bother making a request for help. I mentioned it at check-out and was told that you have to press the "start" button in exactly the center as they are "touchy". So they know there's a problem. Should be taken care of...

Second quibble: The "hot breakfast" that they claim is worth $10 isn't... Yes, it's hot, sort of. Over cooked scrambled eggs and 2 sad slices of bacon (there were 2 other choices but this seemed to be the best). Self-serve bagels, bread to toast, mediocre pastries, yogurt, bananas, apples, oranges, oatmeal, cold cereal, coffee and tea. So maybe it's worth $10 but I don't really think it is. Note: there is a full bar/restaurant that serves in the evenings that we didn't try).

Aside from these couple of things, it was definitely worth the $112 we paid and made the last leg of our trip home to the SF Bay Area quite pleasant. We'd stay there again!

Room Tip: 311: 3rd floor at the back of the property away from the freeway noise!

Pros:
Nice and helpful staff, easy access to freeway, slightly outdated furnishings but still nice, ample parking (safe), nice cook-to-order items for breakfast (included).
Cons:
Although the location has easy access to the 101 freeway, that does cause extra noise for light sleepers (not too bad).
