Entering this sweet spot within the Nordstrom mall in Thousand Oaks, one is greeted with a dim, romantic, and oh so tender atmosphere. If you would like to relax and reflect within an elegant restaurant - this is the place. We were warmly greeted. After taking our seats at the bar area, so as to watch the cooks work their magic, we were tantalized with non-threatening smells of yumminess. They appear a happy bunch. Seeing the positive interaction makes me believe management is onto something good!
Food: the shrimp & asparagus tempura was the best tempura I have had. Ever! Sizzling hot. Tempura coating non-standard and super crispy. My only gripe - they need to omit the soy sauce - it is not needed. Perhaps a fresh herb aioli would be better. The shrimp tasted like prawns from 20 years ago - amazingly sinful. Reminded me of the way things used to taste. The asparagus tasted like a fresh farm picked variety.
The chicken Vietnamese sandwiches were superb. Just the right amount of protein and veggies to compliment. My other only gripe - a little too salty. Not dry. Perfect moisture levels. Rolls: crispy and fresh. The marinade produced a tender savory chicken bite. I tasted ginger and garlic. The veggies upon the roll, just perfectly crunchy without being cumbersome to chew.
The portions are on a small side, perfect for two people to share. With the high levels of sophisticated ingredients, each bite is a trip into foodie nirvana...
OH and let me not forget the best part. How could this get better?
The butterscotch pudding. I will not say more...you have to try this to believe it! Outstanding!!!!!! I drive over an hour to visit this place - and I will do so again, and again, and again!
Staff - impeccable/professional and kind.
Cleanliness - outstanding.
Decor - perfect.
