We visited La Fonda last year (2005) and decided to come back again this year. Both years we stayed Terraza concierge level. Last year we were able to have a 1 bedroom but this year we were unable to get that room (or a similar room). When we arrived, they gave us a room with 2 Q beds, even though we had arranged for a K. The room was dark and small, but the person at the front desk told us it was an upgrade. He also told us that we could call reservations. Reservations was immediately able to put us into a K room which was light, airy, and had more space. We were never sure how the other room was an upgrade. The Terraza level is quiet and very beautiful. Both years the concierge was fantastic - lots of good advice and very helpful. Actually, everyeone was friendly. The breakfast has quite a bit of choice, no hot foods, but you need to get there early. Note that the internet is not free but available and there's a charge for parking.

Stayed at LaFonda last weekend. The rooms were more than adequate, although not luxurious. They were perfect if you aren't spending lots of time in the room, but rather doing lots of sightseeing, shopping and skiing. Large airy rooms, plenty of closet space and large bathrooms. Staff was helpful and courteous. Definitely would go back again for its optimal location and "santa fe charm".

Walls paper thin; kid with bronchitis next door kept me up night after night

Room furnishings tired & dated; broken lamp switch; no mini-bar; torn screen.

Resturaunt & wait staff were the best part.

Primo location dosen't make up for the feeling that no one had spent any serious money on these rooms since the 1980's.

After a bad stay in October of 2004, we decided to try La Fonda once again. When I explained our bad experience last time with the ground level "deluxe room", the reservationist recommended a standard room on the fourth floor. It was a charming room with a balcony overlooking the Loretto Chapel. Much, much, much better! And although the room walls are paper thin (as attested by many of these reviews)and you can hear every word your neighbors are saying - the room was charming and we had a wonderful stay. The room was clean & warm, more than ample closet space, large tub/shower, the housekeeping and restaurant waitstaff were great, and the location of the hotel on the plaza can't be beat. We're glad we gave it another chance.
