“Our favorite hotel”

We have always loved the La Fonda Hotel but never stayed there until our 2 nights, Jan 14th and 15 2014. I was very anxious to see the redo of an iconic former Fred Harvey Hotel though the original hotel was built in 1922. I can tell you it is wonderful! Attention to detail was everywhere, from light fixtures to the painted headboards in some of the rooms. To using the twin painted headboards from a by-gone era as art on the walls of halls. I must say I was impressed with the staff at the check in desk, especially a nice young man named Jeremy. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: We had a 4th floor suite on the back with a balcony and view of Loretto Chapel, loved it.

We recently stayed overnight in a wonderful suite on the fifth (top) floor and had great views from the bedroom and living room, even an outdoor balcony. The furnishings were very interesting, including the painted headboards, etc. similar to ones used by the interior designer of the 1920,s rooms who did most of the historic hotels of the Harvey Girls Era. We love historic hotels and buildings, but these were beautifully done and luxuriously updated to fit modern tastes. We felt like we were in our very own apartment, with everything that we needed to feel "at home". We enjoyed the outdoor bar just down the hall, a great dinner downstairs at LaPlazuela, roaming around the hotel with shops to explore; interesting, historic artworks and breakfast at the French Pastry Shop without having to go outside. We have been to Santa Fe many times and love the great location on the corner of The Plaza but had never stayed at La Fonda before (a long time dream). We decided to treat ourselves and felt special from the moment we arrived in the parking lot, to the front desk where Gabriel and Johnathan were so gracious and friendly. Also, Nancy, the concierge was very helpful with info on an event we wanted to attend. Everyone there was really great. We hated to leave when we checked out.

We spent our anniversary weekend in Santa Fe. I wanted one of the newly remodeled suites on the fifth floor but was too late to reserve one. Instead we got a king room on the fifth floor. The bed took up most of the room but the furniture and closet was laid out so that it worked pretty well. We had a great view overlooking the Loretto Chapel. We had purchased the romance package which included breakfast. Because the room was so small we decided to eat our breakfast at La Plazuela. The breakfasts were wonderful but Sunday AM there was quite a wait to get a table. The thing we love most about La Fonda is that we can park our car for the entire stay and walk everywhere. The staff was friendly and helpful. Free WiFi is included with the room which worked well. The room was clean when we arrived and cleaned well during our stay. We'd recommend it - but call early for reservations and choose the larger rooms.

Room Tip: Ask about room size.

Spent two nights here on a cross country trip. La Fonda is a beautiful hotel, built in the Pueblo style, decorated in Spanish Colonial and located right on the main plaza of Santa Fe. Original Southwestern art work adorn the walls, including the rooms. Our room was wonderful with a big, high king-sized bed, TV and refrigerator. I felt I was in someone’s hacienda. The nicely renovated bathroom had a sliding door with barn hardware and a huge walk-in shower. Fantastically fragrant toiletries and two robes included. A decent sized closet with safe was tucked off the hallway. Just a gorgeous room overall with a lot of extra thought thrown in! Desk staff were efficient. Bar staff were friendly if somewhat out of rhythm. Prices are somewhat high for drinks and appetizers. Wood burning fireplaces provide cozy spots to relax. The dining room is lovely with a high ceiling and painted glass walls. I can't remember when a hotel made me feel so good or happy.

Stayed here in December. I've stayed at La Fonda many times in the past but the new renovation has made the hotel even better. Gabriel (Gabe) at the front desk provided excellent service at check in and represented the hotel very well.

We went to La Fonda for a conference in October, left for a couple of days, and then returned for two more nights. The property is beautiful and recently restored. We ate in various restaurants in the plaza area but ended up frequently eating in the bar where we could enjoy the music - as the food was as good if not better than elsewhere. Gabriel, one of the front desk people, clearly went out of his way to help us upon more than one occasion. He saved me a trip to the hospital by personally going to the lost and found to search for some medications I inadvertently left in the room when we checked out the first time. He found the medications. A housekeeper named Maria M had carefully packaged and labeled them with our room number and date. I highly recommend the location, historic beauty, comfort, food, and service.

We had a wonderful time at LaFonda. The hotel and rooms reflect the look and feel of Santa Fe. The location could not be better. After our stay here we went to Albuquerque and stayed at a wonderful Hyatt. However, it felt so sterile after the New Mexican hospitality and attention to detail of this hotel. We weren't as impressed with the restaurant but sitting at one of the fires with a drink was a perfect way to end a day of visiting this beautiful city. My business also held a meeting for 50 people during this stay. The hotel offered lovely settings for the meeting and were attentive throughout.
