“Checking out early”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2011

Had a reservation for 8 nites. The only employee available at the hotel at check in (non-native English speaker). Put me in the worst room in the hotel - next to housekeeping - when I complained and asked to be moved - put me in the second worst room - right next to the back door where the door slams shut constantly. Breakfast average (if you don't eat the hot food), tiny indoor pool overused and noisy (one family fills the pool). Internet did work, rooms have minifridge and microwave (didn't use). After one night am looking for alternate place the rest of my trip.

Room Tip: ask for ground floor in the middle of hall

Thank you for your feedback. We rely on your comments to let us know how we are doing and how we can better meet your needs. We tried our best to accommodate your request, but in this instance better rooms were not available as we were sold that evening. Please accept our sincere apologies. I am glad we were able to accommodate you for the rest of your stay, and we hope your stay is pleasant.

We hope you will continue to use Hilton hotels as your lodging of choice, and look forward to welcoming you back to provide the level of service you expect from the Hampton Inn & Suites Santa Fe.

I've stayed at this Hampton Inn several times and have always been pleased. The rooms are comfortable and clean, there's a coin laundry, and the AARP discount and free wireless are a big plus. (Unlike other reviewers, I had no problems with Internet access and I stayed here for 4 days.) The public areas are a bit beat up but the room itself was fine.

The elevator in this establishment smelled very bad. They had delicious cookies in the evening. Also breakfast to go in the morning, if you didn't have time to eat in their breakfast room. Newspaper at the door in the morning. The door jam was damaged in our room and it looked like the room had been broken into more than once. The view out our window was of an old trailer park. The desk clerk was very nice and informative.

We were comfortable in this hotel for the two nights that we stayed. It's a little hard to spot from the street. It took us a while to figure out a landmark so we wouldn't drive by it.

I enjoyed the convenience of the coin laundry. The pool area near the laundry is attractive. I spent some time on the Internet in the small business center while I waited for my clothes to dry. There is a small lounge area with a TV where I noticed guests relaxing.

Have stayed here several times over the last three years.

They have updated the rooms and I have no complaints with the room.

The wireless service is terrible, hard to access and painfully slow.

The first day it was completely unavailable and the next two days were intermittent at best.

This is the third consecutive stay with wireless problems and the staff is aware of the problem, but nothing is done to correct the problem.

We won't be able to return.

I am a Hilton Gold member and stay at many Hampton Inns. Most are very good properties, this is not one of them. The hotel is marginal and has a lot of bumps and bruises, Doors and floors in the bathroom are pretty beat up. Fan made a terrible noise. The room itself was clean, no problems there. The front desk staff was helpful in finding an excellent restaurant, Los Mayas for me. Location is OK, everything is close. Only 4 miles to downtown. For the money I paid, way overpriced. Also, the 2nd floor hallway reeked of cigarette smoke. The room was fine, but as soon as I walked into the hall, it was awful. I don't know why Hilton allows this at any of their hotels.

Spent one night here this week. First stay at this property, but have stayed at many, many Hamptons in US and Canada, as well as many other properties in Santa Fe (Diamond HHonors). Spent the prior night at the Hilton on the Plaza, where we usually stay, and had enjoyed 3 earlier nice stays recently. This time, however, we had a decrepit, noisy, poorly maintained room on the 3rd floor, and rather than spend a second night there, checked out and went to the Hampton. Classic case of going from bad to worse. Much worse. The staff were fine, but the property was, wow, really awful. First off, the "security" door was propped open by a box. Nice, safe feeling there. The elevator smelled like a horse stable and was littered with trash and smudges of some undetermined substance on walls and doors. It remained the same-or worse-the next day. The hall reeked of cigarette smoke. Our 2nd floor room had a very loud heating/AC unit on the wall. Also an old-style TV. The bathroom was tiny and had peeling wallpaper, peeling paint, chipped tub, and the toliet had a big chunk of missing ceramic that looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. The shower, with a torn old shower curtain, creaked and groaned and had a very weak spray--took a long time to shower. The crowning glory of the room was the view from our window of the trailer park next door. Free entertainment there had me closing those old curtains right away! There is more of the same, but you get the picture. We are looking for another option on the company approved list for our next trip there in August. Do yourself a favor and do the same.
