“Unexpected Pleasure”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

I made reservations online for Ft Marcy, choosing a premium 2BR condo for our girlfriend getaway so we could each have our own bedroom. Condo #57 was certainly a premium one! Each condo at Ft Marcy is privately owned so each one is completely different. Our condo was so tastefully remodeled and decorated. But beyond the interior of the condo Ft Marcy sits high atop a hill that at first appears a bit far from the plaza but in fact, as long as you're willing to walk through the Ft Marcy Park you are only a few blocks from not only the Plaza of Santa Fe but Canyon Road which is filled with galleries. Ft Marcy Suites offers a complimentary shuttle to the Plaza throughout the day. We were told to call them when we were ready for a return trip to the hotel from the Plaza. When we called we were told they were short handed so they called for a cab to pick us up and they (Ft Marcy Suites) would pick up the tab!! We were VERY pleasantly surprised by this overture.
The hotel has no restaurant but the condos have fully equipped kitchens.
We can't say anything about the pool since we never had time for it. We were so comfortable with our condo and the service of the hotel that we would be happy to return in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed in Condo #57 which was completely remodeled.

It’s always nice to hear when our staff goes above and beyond for our guests. As you mentioned many of our units have been fully remodeled and securing a premium suite is definitely worth it. Thanks you for staying with us and sharing your experience.

I stayed at Fort Marcy condominiums May 22-23. 1 BR Premium Condo #90
Had a Groupon half off coupon which made this stay a real deal. The unit was nicely appointed, comfortable, and very quiet. Unit locations vary about the complex, but mine was near the Kearney Rd side, which was convenient for walking to the historic district. These units are up on a hill, so it's a bit of a hike back up to the top. They provide shuttle service, but it does not go past 4 pm. This property was a solid value, but there were a few concerns worth pointing out: 1) the short walk to the condo has at least 10 steps over the length of the sidewalk, making it a little difficult to move luggage to/from the unit; 2) there is only a stand-up shower and no tub if that is important to you; 3) I was disappointed that there was only a mini-refrigerator and not a full sized fridge, especially given the excellent stove and dishwasher. The little fridge was only adequate at keeping things cold and the freezer compartment had a lot of frost build up, so not much could fit.

A parking lot was available to the left of the office, which was a better option than street parking.
There is a TV in the living room (hidden within a large wooden cabinet). No washer/dryer in unit, but laundry facilities ($) are avail at the office building as it a small indoor swimming pool.

Were so glad you took advantage of our twice a year promotion in Groupon. You did fairly point out 3 hiccups with your stay, but with a little advance notice on your next visit they can all be easily remedied. If steps are a challenge for you please let us know so we can book you in a room with few or no stairs. Some of our newly remodeled units do not have traditional baths but instead are equipped with walk in showers. If a long bath is in your vacation plans just let us know so we can accommodate your wish. Finally some of our 1 Bedrooms units do in fact have just small fridges, all our two bedroom units boast full sized units. If your planning on staying in some during your stay give us a heads up so we can make sure we find a room for you that meets your needs. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us and,we look forward to having you as our guest again in the very near future.

Fort Marcy Hotel Suites are an excellent choice for a visit to Santa Fe. The location is great, you can walk (15 minutes) to the plaza and leave your car parked at the hotel. The condos sit above the city so you have a nice view and some tranquility from all the activity in the plaza. The condo was very clean, quiet, and nicely decorated. The kitchen was set-up with enough basics that we were able to enjoy some meals relaxing " at home". Friendly and attentive management also. I would definitely recommend this property.

Thank you for making some great points about parking and making the sojourn to the plaza. The plaza can be reached in about 10 minutes from the front office at a very leisurely pace. But remember if you’re too tired from a day of sightseeing our shuttle is available daily to bring you right back where you started.

This condo complex is great. Each unit is privately owned, so each has its own character. Ours had wonderful quilts and was well furnished. We had a full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room and each had our own bedroom for less than two rooms in a hotel.

There is no question it is a much better value to get an 1100 sq ft 2 bedroom condo at Fort Marcy then to pay for two hotel rooms almost anywhere else. This is a point I am always trying to convey to our future guests. Thanks for letting your little secret out about your little “…gem in Santa Fe.”

The word "hotel" in Fort Marcy Hotel Suites is very misleading. The current managers of the property book themselves as a "hotel suites" property, but that is really not the case. The is no manager on duty after 7:00 pm at night, so if you have a problem, there is no one on premises to call. There is an emergency "after hours" number in the binder left in the rooms - but that assumes that a) you have not locked yourself out of your room and b) there is actually a phone in your room so that you can dial "zero" as instructed in the binder. Our newly refurbished 2 bedroom unit (#87) had just been put back in to the rental pool by the owner a few days before we checked in. It was not really ready for use, and I directly blame the management for not vetting the unit. There was no phone, no fire extinguisher, not enough seating for 4 people in the living room, the balcony door handle in the master bedroom would not work, and the shower leaked thru the ceiling upstairs on to the kitchen stove below. What a disaster.

The management did move us to another unit, after I insisted, and credited me back the charges for the first night (I had to ask for this, it was not offered).

My husband's laptop computer disappeared during the move - either we left it in the old unit in the confusion of the move (in which case it disappeared from the unit or was found and not turned in to the office) OR it was taken from the back of the car while we were in the process of taking trips to carry luggage in to the new unit. The car was parked in Fort Marcy parking, but the walk from the lot to the unit was long, down several steps and out of sight of the car. We should have closed and locked the car between trips - there are signs all over the Fort Marcy parking lots that indicate that Management is not responsible for items left in cars on their property.

A few tips:

* Not handicapped friendly - to the best of my knowledge, the two bedroom units all require climbing stairs to the bedroom level. If you can't climb stair or carry you suitcase up and down the stairs, you will be in trouble.

* Parking is not in any way in front of or even near your unit. Be prepared to carry your luggage down long walks, and sometimes down or up outdoor brick stairs to reach your front door. This can get tricky in the dark, or in winter when there is snow on the paths and stairs. Not a big deal for the young, fit and able, especially if you pack light.

* Fire Safety for 2 bedroom units - the only way out from the 2nd level where the bedrooms are is from inside your unit, down a set of open wooden stairs. The two units we occupied did not have fire extinguishers - not in the kitchen, not upstairs, not in the front hall and not next to the lovely kiva fireplaces. I have stayed at Ft.. Marcy Suites twice before this very unhappy visit - the last time being 2000, when they were under different management. Both times, I stayed in 3 bedroom units.

* Outside Seating - the units appear to have some outside seating so that one can sit outside and enjoy the views. However, the table & chairs in each unit are different, not standard and the two bedroom units have lovely balconies which can only be accessed from upstairs.

* Fireplaces and Firewood - Not all units have fireplaces. If a Kiva fireplace is a must for you, be sure to request a unit with a fireplace. The management won't promise to guarantee this request, but they will try. Firewood is $10 per bundle - enough for two fires, and can be purchased at the front desk (providing you get there before 7:00 pm because the desk is closed in the winter, spring and fall after 7:00 pm).

* Not all units are equipped equally as far as the kitchen is concerned - but you will have the basics to be able to cook, serve and clean up. One unit had a coffee maker, coffee grinder and coffee provided by management, but no sugar, salt or pepper. The 2nd unit had a coffee maker and ground coffee packets, filters, sugar and salt/pepper provided by management.

Final take-away - The location is wonderful, providing you are able to climb the hill from the Plaza. The views can be marvelous. The price is good for two couples - much less than two hotel rooms, particularly because you can make your own breakfasts. I would rent a 3 bedroom unit, even if I only need two bedrooms, because they are all on one level and can be exited from ground level bedroom windows, in case of fire. Do not count on great customer service and NEVER assume that you stuff is safe in their parking lots.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom units are not handicapped friendly.

You touched on so many topics in your review it is difficult to know where to start. When we heard of your missing laptop, we immediately conducted an extensive review of our state of the art door locking systems and showed you the results. We were able to confirm with you that at no time had anyone entered your room when you were not present. You state only our 3 bedrooms units have balconies at ground level. This is not accurate, all 3 Bedroom units and half of our 2 Bedroom units are two story units. Although many of our units are not handicapped accessible, when we know of a guest inability to navigate long walkways or stairs we do have rooms very close to parking that are one story with no stairs required for access. We have both 1 & 2 bedroom units of this style. We did upgrade you to a brand-new remodeled unit in an effort to provide you a memorable stay here in Santa Fe. Sometimes something has to be used to find out the little quirks that need to be addressed. Each of the items that you mentioned has been addressed. We are sorry if this inconvenienced you in any way. I think your Final-take-away has some valid points but as you can see from our many reviews customer service is a high priority and in your case our wanting to provide you that high level of service was the reason you were upgraded to a premium unit at no charge. We operate as a hotel that provides unmatched accommodations close to the plaza area. As I have mentioned in numerous review responses we are a condo-style hotel offering fully self-contained units just four blocks from the plaza. Again I apologize for any frustration we may have caused you on your trip to Santa Fe. Happy Traveling.

We stayed in Marcy Hotel Suites for four nights and found it to be very comfortable with an accommodation. The place was clean and quiet and provided plenty of room for social gatherings. Additionally, it is located within walking distance of the plaza. However, there is a bit of an uphill walk from the plaza to the hotel.

Room Tip: We found our one bedroom by calling the hotel directly. The one bedrooms were not shown on their web...

“It feels like Santa Fe should” We are lucky to offer so many different uniquely Santa Fe style condos here at Fort Marcy. With Santa Fe being the home to the “Santa Fe Architecture” style you can’t get away from the flat roofs and what truly defines the southwest design while visiting us. A visit to the Bandelier National Monument will show you how and why the style came into existence. Please come back soon and explore more of Northern New Mexico. Whenever I buy a travel deal on Groupon or Living Social or a similar site, I'm always a little nervous! However, I decided to throw caution to the wind and book a couple different spots on a recent mother-daughter trip to Albuquerque and Santa Fe through both. I believe Groupon had our deal for Fort Marcy and I really had no idea what to expect. We drove up and it was a little compound of sorts. After finding the office (with a bit of trouble...more our fault than their's for not looking at the correct address) a sweet guy named Nathan helped us out with check-in and getting settled. There were two rooms to choose from and he was obviously leaning towards one so we went with it. Drove up and it was a total palace (granted, I'm from NYC and live in a shoe box) with two stories, a cute balcony and an adorably manicured front entrance. Sorry...I have to repeat that it was TWO STORIES! A whole house! We walked in and our jaws hit the floor. GORGEOUS decor. Amazing kitchen. Art and beautiful furnishings everywhere. A working fireplace. Two large bedrooms with super comfy beds and THREE fantastic bathrooms with cute decorative tile sinks, walk-in showers...I could go on forever about how cute this place was! We actually fell so in love with our house that we cancelled some of our plans, went to Whole Foods, bought some groceries, and enjoyed wine that night and breakfast in the morning on our cute patio. Before breakfast, I grabbed my book, made some coffee, and sat out there with a blanket sucking in the fresh, NM air. I know that you're supposed to go on vacation to see the sites (which we did) but our stay at this adorable little home made our trip extra special and relaxing. We will absolutely be back and will 100% recommend it to all our friends visiting the area. Ugh, I wish I was there now.

Room Tip: Request the 2-story 2BR/3BA houses if you're going with a group. I can't speak for all of th...
