I also read the reviews. It is true that the rooms are dark! This seems due to the type of lampshades they have chosen, and not enough lamps. There are no overhead lights. I am also not a fan do heavy comforters on the beds; they don't get laundered very often, no matter what the policy is. I asked for a room upstairs overlooking the mountains and cemetery when I booked, but was told that they were all taken after I arrived. Looking out the window was almost a ground level experience, as you are indeed below grade. No elevator in the spawning building with multiple stair levels was a bit of a nuisance. The staff was nice. Buy two, get one night free is a deal if you are not banking on the hotel experience to make or break your dream vacation.
