“Penthouse is nice”
Reviewed July 12, 2012 via mobile

Our room was updated and nice. With a family of four, the penthouse had a lot of room. Coffee at breakfast was good and the breakfast had enough variety to keep everyone happy.

Awesome pool, decent coffee, way-above average breakfasts, spacious rooms with thermostats that actually cool to your desired temp. The Santa Fe New Mexican and USA Today are ready for you. The rooms are spacious, have a working fireplace and the anyway you'd feel more at home would be if Aunt Bee was there cooking in that small kitchen for you.

You're just a heartbeat from the Plaza, up Galisteo Road. It's an easy, straight-shot.

Bring your own wireless gizmo; there's no wireless in the rooms (yet, I'm told).

Room Tip: Do an upstairs, as the balconies are quite nice.

When we stayed at the Residence Inn, it appeared work was being done on the property. However, needed updates had not yet been made to the suite we were in. The two-story suite design was great for our family visit to Santa Fe, but the tiny outdated TVs and limited channel offerings left something to be desired. My one complaint is the open design allows sounds from the lower level to echo loudly in the upper level. In our case, it made it rather difficult for Grandma and Grandpa to get any sleep upstairs, while our grandson wanted to watch TV downstairs.

Otherwise, the location is good... just slightly off the beaten path, but within easy driving-distance to the central plaza, businesses, dinning and everything else. The included hot and cold breakfast buffet was average, but met our needs. Their coffee brand/brewing could also benefit from some "updating".... couldn't wait to find a real coffee shop. Staff seemed efficient and friendly enough.

Definitely not up to Marriott standards. The rooms are in little apartments. The property is so beat up, it felt like college dorms. Fitness area has almost nothing.

Seriously, everything about this place felt like a motel 6. .......except the price. I don't really recommed this place.

We had a penthouse - all of which are accessed on the second floor. (So if you don't want to carry your luggage up the stairs, this is not the room for you). This room has the main bedroom in a loft setting (not a traditional bedroom) and the second bed is a pull-down bed a foot away from the couch. As others have mentioned, it is a bit worn around the edges, but renovations are starting. Otherwise, it was clean and comfortable.
The location is a bit off the beaten path. There are no restaurants within walking distance.
Breakfast was fine and the front desk folks were very polite and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel are quieter. You might also ask where your room is in relation to th...

Thank you for your review and sharing your feedback. As you mentioned, our renovation is indeed underway! About half of all our suites have been completed and the response has been great. The lobby and exercise room will be complete by June 1st. The breakfast room reopened on May 16th. Thank you for mentioning the Penthouse suites are on the 2nd floor as this is an issue for some guests. We try to ensure everyone is aware of this when making a reservation but it seems we need to improve on this. We do have 10 Penthouse suites that have doors to the lower bedroom and a standard king bed, not a pull-down bed. These suites are called Penthouse Exceptions. Again, thanks for the feedback and I hope you have a chance to stay again once the renovation is complete. Kate Lettenberger, General Manager

This place is a bit on the old side. There were a couple stains on couch cushions and curtains. But the kitchen had everything we needed. We were disappointed in the 2 bedroom penthouse. They are all on the second floor. You walk into the living area and about 10 feet in font of you is the first bedroom which is seperated from living by a pull curtain. The second bedroom is a loft style, which the kids loved. But if you book this room you better like whoever you are staying with because there is no privacy! The stairs going up the second bedroom are very steep. Don't bring grandma to stay in loft bedroom. Breakfast was good. It is extremely hot in the eating area! With and withoug ski gear on! Parking was a bit unsafe I thought. There is no fence around the property. No indoor pool. Gym does not have a variety of equipment.. only treadmill and bike.

GOOD NEWS is I saw renovations happening in some of the other buildings!

Room Tip: Choose a building close to the main building.

We stayed 4 nights (fri -tue) while on a ski vacation. I am a Platinum Rewards member, and stay at Marriott properties about 100+ nights a year. The overall condition of the hotel is fair, and hopefully the renovation will bring it up to the usually excellent Marriott chain level.

The major shortcomings were, old, dated, and worn out furnishings and appliances. Beds badly need replacement /upgrade. General cleanliness could be better. Staff is capable, but even there they have room fot improvement.

If I had known the property was going to be under construction, with associated lack of parking, and material / supplies stacked around, I would have booked elsewhere.
