A pretty hotel for sure and the pool outside was very nice no hot tub though. The bed was horrible I did not get good sleep any of the 3 nights that we stayed there. The restaurant was very over priced on the food. The location was great, except after paying for our room we still had to pay 8 dollars a day to park, so that was a added 24 dollars for us. and they let the public park there for the same price. outrageous.

The inn was "okay", but it certainly wasn't anything to write home about. We stayed in a mini-suite. It was probably one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. I've stayed here a few times before for work, during the legislative session, and I suppose I expected more from Garrett's. This time I was disappointed.

We were in Santa Fe the weekend of August 10-12, 2012...primarily to go to the Santa Fe Opera for our annual concert there. The location is among the best of the hotels downtown....easy walking distance to sights and restaurants downtown. We've been staying at the Garrett's for 15 years or so and it hasn't changed....which is good and bad. We've never had a dirty room here....but they are very basic. Just doing some basic upgrading of the rooms would help a lot (New beds and furniture especially. The TV's haven't been replaced in a long time). The exterior areas are maintained nicely. Plenty of parking on site...although as others have mentioned they charge to park (8 dollars a day if I recall). However all the hotels downtown charge for parking....the higher end ones such as the Inn at Loretto charge quite a bit more plus it is valet parking (add tips).

I would recommend Garrett's for those on a budget who wish to be downtown. All your other options will generally be near double (or more) the price when you add parking etc. You do get what you pay for room wise though. Good choice for active people visiting downtown Santa Fe and the area who are not spending a lot of time in the room as well as those on a budget.

We chose the hotel for its location and there certainly is nothing wrong with that: 3 minutes walk to the plaza and restaurants all around The rooms itself are clean enough, but they remind you of a motel of at least 10 years ago. Not bad but nothing special either. It's a bit strange that you also have to pay for parking, 8 dollars a day. The hotel does have a nice pool though. Great hotel if you don't want to spend too much time in your room, but want to be right where the action is.

The visitors center in Santa Fe recommended Garretts as they were centrally situated and offering a discount rate. Thankfully we took it as it proved to be just what we needed - within easy walking distance of all the sights, pubs and restaurants - and it has a sparkling swimming pool.

Room Tip: Close to the pool if it's hot.

It's obvious that with this hotel you are paying for location....and NOTHING more. The rooms were filthy, mold on the ceiling, carpet was absolutely disgusting. As if you aren't already paying WAY too much for this room, the motel CHARGES YOU TO PARK YOUR OWN CAR!!! If you are paying a premium to stay at a prime location, you should get all the benefits that come with that, including parking your car. We will never stay here again.

I absolutely loved the location of this hotel. It is a matter of minutes to walk to the famous plaza and to the less famous, but much more fun (in my opinion Canyon Rd). This is tremendous value for the money.

Now, the hotel itself is quite nice. There is a pleasant swimming pool and a nice cafe, Cafe Chantilly, where the fodo is great and the service very, very slow. The terrace is quite nice, though, so, if you're not in a hurry, it's a nice place to eat.

The rooms are very basic. They could use better decor, better mattresses and more electric plugs. My husband had a pleasant shower early in the morning, but by the time I took a shower, the water fluctuated constantly between icy cold and boiling hot. If you can put up with these shortcomings (and I think they are worth putting up with), this is the hotel for you.

There is also ample parking for an additional $8 per day, which is well worth it in this area.

If you can, walk up Canyon Rd, which has one art gallery after another, with restaurants sprinkled in, and nice shady tree. it's a lovely walk and on Friday nights there are always some galleries that have an opening night reception with food and drinks!
