“Great simple stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2012

We stayed there during Spring Break and it was a very nice, simple, and clean hotel. We were able to bring our dog as well. Good location next to a great pizza place and wine bar!

Knowing that this was an older motel I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the room. I got a terrific price on Orbitz to make the deal even nicer. I called the hotel direct to see if they would match the Orbitz price. The first thing I was told by the desk person was they charge an $8.00 parking fee. She couldn't match the price and said I should book through Orbitz. When I checked in the $8.00 parking fee was prominently displayed so there should be no surprises about this matter. Apparently this is common practice in the Plaza area hotels/motels. The desk person was extremely friendly and helpful and gave me a ground floor room. Room was clean and pleasant. My only complaint was a light bulb was out in one of the fixtures and housekeeping didn't seem to notice it. I could have asked to have it replaced but didn't get around to it. Considering how close this motel is to the Plaza and shops I would stay here again even without the bargain price I got.

Room Tip: I think any room will be a good choice with the U - shape layout of the motel.

Santa Fe has some of the best hotels in the USA, at some of the highest prices, but this isn't one of them. It's a basic, old fashioned, two story motel, with rooms arranged around a large parking lot. It probably hasn't changed much in decades, and that includes the decor and the furniture. There's a nice swimming pool and a reasonably good restaurant. All in all, it's a very average place.

Garrett's has two big advantages. The first is location. It's in the center of Santa Fe, a short walk from the square, the galleries, and some superb restaurants. The second is price. You can pay a LOT more for a fabulous hotel with all the (authentic or fake) Santa Fe trappings of adobe architecture, Navajo and Hopi artifacts, and the like. But for budget accommodation in a convenient location, Garrett's can't be beat.

Hotel has a great French rest and great pizza parlor next door. Nice staff. Second stay here. First with buddies and second with family. Ski Santa Fe! Paid $69 and received an upgrade to two queens. Same price.

This hotel is similar to a Rodeway Inn or Motel 8. It offer the basic amenities (a bed, tv, bathroom), but nothing more. It is cheap, relative to the other hotels in the area. It's located about a 5 minute walk to the Square and next door to some good restaurants.

I have frequent business in Santa Fe. The weather was cold and looked bad for Monday travel so I hit the road Sunday night and had my wife make a reservation for me. They convinced her the "suite" was the best room they had. I arrived at 10pm and checked in. The receptionist was pleasant but the room was terrible. I should have left but it was late. The room was huge, probably 25 x 50 ft, but freezing cold. The couch, table, mini-fridge, and micro were dwarfed by the size of the room. I put the heater on, which was in the powder room, to max but it never warmed the room, even by morning. Having business the next day, I went to plug in my computer to do some work and found trash and dirt behind the dresser (an old boarding pass, note paper, rolls of dust, etc.). I later pulled out the chair in the powder room and there was a candy rapper on the seat. There was rust in the bath tub. The TV was about 40 years old with a failing picture tube that was mostly black. I didn't sit on the couch. I would never stay at this place again. Do not stay here.

Room Tip: Do not stay here.
