Staff was very friendly. The internet connection was very good. the beds were very nice and comfortable. We were in room 303. The breakfast was decent, no eggs just grains and coffee/teas. Rooms were very clean. Pool looked nice. about 5 min to downtown if that. We stayed at Kings Room Rest on a previous trip and this place made Kings Room Rest look like a 5 dollar room in a Mexican border town. I would stay here any time I came to Santa Fe.

We stayed at this property a couple of months ago, and there were good and bad things.

Usually, I list good first, but I want to start with the bad, and then perhaps offset those feelings with some key positives. This hotel is not in the greatest Santa Fe location. It's in the middle of Cerrillos Road and not really near to the major sights/draws that bring tourists to town. Now Santa Fe is small enough that this isn't a huge problem, but Cerrillos is a busy, slow street. Also, the hotel is very old. We were placed in a room in a building that's actually across the street and looks like an old apartment complex the hotel bought. The room was huge, with a dining table, large kitchen and a pretty big bathroom area. HOWEVER, everything looked like it had been put in around 1979. Walking into the room was simply vaguely depressing...it made me think I was going into a studio apartment of a poor college student. It wasn't dirty, mind you...just depressingly dated.

We had numerous relatives on the property at the same time, and they were all in the main hotel area. I saw a couple of their rooms, and they were slightly undersized and equally out-dated looking. I'm by no means a hotel snob, and a nice Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express has frequently suited me just fine. But the Lamplighter was just a bit shabby.

On the neutral side, it has a large indoor pool. This is either good or bad, depending on your preference. To me, I don't care for indoor pools because they are often musty smelling and humid. Others don't care, and therefore, the pool area would probably have seemed very nice and large.

On the plus side. The main hotel is essentially a rectangle with a grassy area in the middle. We spent a very enjoyable evening under the clear spring New Mexico sky and talked, laughed and sociallized. VERY pleasant.

Best of all is the price. Hotels in Santa Fe are EXPENSIVE. VERY. This hotel is modestly priced, and for a budget minded traveler spending a couple of days in the city...save money on the hotel and use it for dining or shopping. Price is indeed a big motivator, and if you don't mind taking a trip back in time decor-wise and carpet-wise...the Lamplighter might be just for you.

I'm on the fence myself.

Room Tip: If you're staying for an extended time, ask for one of the apartment rooms. You'll get a sp...

We stayed here for 3 days in Aug 2012. We were quite pleased with the courtesy of the staff, and comfort & cleanliness of the rooms. The only downside was the lack of an exercise facility, but this place was great for what we needed. We'd definitely stay again and recommend it to our friends.

Room Tip: As the rooms open to the outside, something on the second floor may afford more privacy, not that th...

This is a great 1950's style motel that reminded me of car trip motels as a child. The ceiling was beautiful wooden beams and the decor was classic Southwest. The service staff is friendly and competent. It was immaculately clean--even the laundry room was really clean. The breakfast was a real surprise. Usually, "continental breakfast" means stale muffins and bagels. Lamplighter had Celestial Seasons teas, a wide selection of breads, oatmeal, fruit and more and this was at the end of the breakfast time. The grounds are carefully groomed and the pool is clean and big enough to actually get some exercise. The only complaint was that the A/C did not work very well and the room was stuffy on the 2nd floor but as the evening cooled, the room cooled for a comfortable night's sleep.

While the room smelled a little musty it was clean and roomy. The beds were comfy, shower and tub was clean and attractive. There was a microwave and small fridge. My grandkids enjoyed the pool which was inside a fiberglass structure with removable panels in the ceiling. I'm not sure it was really heated. The hot tub was warm but the jets weren't working.
They offered a healthy style breakfast with cereal, kashi, yogurt, sliced oranges, bagels and muffins, juice , milk and coffee. Better than the standard fare at most motels.
The grounds and building were attractive located near shopping centers and restaurants.
The desk people were pleasant, polite and helpful.

We spent two nights at the Lamplighter Inn in Santa Fe. This is conveniently located near other shopping such as Walmart and Best Buy which we needed for supplies on our trip. But it was also easy to drive in near Canyon Road and park. The room was large and had everything but a microwave but we didn't need one. We found the room to be very clean and comfortable. This hotel has a very large pool and a jacuzzi located in its own little building. The breakfast room was also adjacent to the pool. This hotel served my favorite breakfast on our trip because they offered fresh cooked kashi and yogurt. The outdoor courtyard area is landscaped with pretty flowers and has picnic tables. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again.

We arrived in the wee hours of the morning for our visit to Santa Fe for our daughter's wedding to find our room awaiting us, immaculate and comfortable, it included one of the most comfortable hotel beds we can remember! An inexpensive home away from home with helpful staff always ready to answer questions and provide helpful hints. The free "continental" breakfast buffet couldn't have been nicer and the hours of 6 to 9 every morning convenient. The enclosed pool offers a roof that closes in inclement weather for comfort in cooler weather. A short drive to the Plaza and close to the Santa Fe National Forest as well all of the area attractions, we can't wait to go back to our friends at the Lamplighter. It's across from a large supermarket and walking distance to several good restaurants, check out the Ole Cafe next door if you're craving huevos rancheros or a complete breakfast menu for a change.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side, away from the street are quieter.
