“Santa Fe hospitality”
Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

We just spent two nights at Inn of the governors and enjoyed our stay. The room, while a bit small but we didn't pay top of the line either, was beautifully appointed in the Santa Fe look. There was free wi Fi, lovely iced cucumber water in the lobby, a hearty and delicious complimentary breakfast as well. Also you can't beat the location. Two blocks from the plaza. Perfecto. We will stay again!

From the time we arrived until we left 4 days later we found the staff to be friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I had booked a mini suite which was quite comfortable for the two of us as it was large and airy. Ours was #250 and we found it to be quite quiet even though it overlooked the parking lot but had a view of the mts to the west. In the morning we would sit out on the balcony and have our coffee while reading the paper. The only complaints about the room would be that the A/C was rather on the noisy side and the WiFi signal strength in the room was not very strong causing webpages to load very slowly. They do have at least 3 PCs in various locations around the hotel you can use as well. Our room was quickly serviced each day when we went out to enjoy Santa Fe. Not like a lot of hotels that don't service the rooms of continued stay guests until last and usually late in the afternoon.
The included breakfast had a good variety of both hot and cold items. But the bacon was like leather several mornings. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio each morning while we ate breakfast as well.
Another reviewer mentioned the parking lot and it is rather tight. You really don't need a car if all you are going to do is explore the area around the plaza as everything is in walking distance. Additionally, you probably won't find any parking closer in anyways. We found the underground parking area always had space and your car was out of the sun so it didn't heat up during the day.
We had no problem with the $15 discount for their restaurant being credited to our account the two days we availed ourselves of it. And we did book on the internet and received the best available rate . Plus the desk staff when we checked in reminded us of the discount.
If we should return to Santa Fe we would definitely consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Book a mini suite if you are going to be staying more than a night or two.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel was definitely quaint with Santa Fe charm. The location was ideal, right by the plaza. The breakfast was great with lots of offerings. Our children loved it each day. Everyone who worked there was accommodating and helpful. Unfortunately, there was a lot of road construction when we were there so the setting wasn't as serene as hoped. As we sat by the pool, we would hear construction. My only couple complaints are that the traditional motel style rooms were tiny, not large enough for a family with two small children. We felt cooped up. Also, at night it was very noisy with people walking by and cars racing down the street. I highly recommend you stay in one of the rooms in the main hotel not the motel rooms with exterior doors.

We had one night left in New Mexico and heard good things about the Inn of the Governors so decided to stay there. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy the check in, parking, location, etc was simple and easy. We quickly got settled in our room and went down to the restaurant in the hotel for drinks and appetizer before dinner. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service is friendly and fast.
The extras in the room were much appreciated as well, all the soaps, shampoos and lotions were good quality for any lady, especially at the end of an eight day vacation. There was plenty of bottled water in the room and everything was very clean and smelled nice.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and/or families visiting Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Room 310 is on the end of the 3rd floor facing the West so the sunsets are amazing.

A charming hotel that is only a couple of blocks from the Plaza and right on the river. Very easy to walk to restaurants, shopping, etc. Staff is always very friendly and helpful. We chose the king room in the main building (interior hallway) and it was very comfortable. Bathroom was a tad small, but very well appointed. The breakfast buffet is expansive with much to choose from: eggs, several meat selections, hashbrowns as well as cold cereal, yogurt, fruit. Overall another great experience at this mainstay hotel in Santa Fe.

We have been staying at Inn of the Governors yearly for the past 8 years. We usually go during spring break and really wondered during our recent trip in June if the place is under new management or if they just don't cater as well to their customers because they don't need the business during the summer. We stayed for 3 nights in a mini suite, which was lovely and large, and the Mountain Sunrise Breakfast each morning was as great as always. The location is excellent, just park the car and walk to the Plaza and surrounding areas.

Our concern was with the hospitality and customer service provided (or not) by the staff. No one seemed to be happy in their jobs (except for the great staff at the Del Charro), We were not given the Del Charro cantina credit as promised on the website with a reservation, and when we asked were told that we were given the "best rate" so we wouldn't receive this credit. Best rate?? They dismissed us when we inquired, and were only responded to in an accommodating manner by a nice desk clerk the next morning. We had two days credit in the cantina, at least. The first night we were there, there were obviously drunken and extremely loud guests on the balcony below us, who we finally called to complain about at 1:20 a.m. Do they not have security to pay attention to these disturbances? The person who answered our call was obviously annoyed that we called, and we are not even sure they followed up with our concerns. No one called to follow up with us the next day. No one from management ever answered an email that I sent early in our stay about the Del Charro credit either. We have always loved Inn of the Governors, but will investigate other places that need our business in Santa Fe or who care to show some hospitality.

Room Tip: If you make a reservation on their website, make sure that you get the Del Charro credit up front...

I booked and then upgraded to a room with door to inside hallway as opposed to outside breezeway door. After arriving I saw that any room would be great. We were two women traveling and felt safe and secure the entire time at this hotel and in Santa Fe. The rooms are pretty and the open lobby has lots of charm, the heated pool while not huge was never crowded and heated beautifully. Its location is excellent, you can stroll to everything, and quiet at night. The staff was helpful, friendly and gracious. Thanks to Ken for restaurant recommendations. The buffet breakfast that is complementary is terrific, starting at 6.30 am made it perfect for getting out and about early, I will recommend this place to all my friends and will stay there again, not one negative, its lovely.

Room Tip: A variety of room sizes, ask booking staff for recommendations
