This restaurant was a new find for us. The atmosphere is a bit odd because it's in an old Pizza Hut but it has a fun vibe and a western (more than Mexican) feel and look. Menu had a huge selection; can't imagine someone not finding something they would enjoy. There were 11 of us so we made a reservation. Good thing as there was a line to get in. The food was very good. We had nachos and guacamole to start; both delicious. Delicious chips and 3 kinds of salsa were placed on the table as well. Dinners ranged from chicken with a great mole sauce to fajitas to ribs to stuffed poblanoes. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Portions were generous but not ridiculous. The wait staff was exceptionally attentive; prompt service with orders and refilling drinks. It was a fun place, a very enjoyable evening, and delicious food.

If there's a better choice for Mexican in Santa Fe, my wife and I haven't been able to find it after living here for several years. We've returned to this restaurant many times and have always found the service very pleasant and helpful. Although it may be a bit noisy (TVs are always on) and sometimes crowded, we've always been seated immediately and served in a very reasonable time frame. Although not as fancy, say, as Pasquale's, we've certainly found it a more pleasant experience as well as being much easier on the budget--while always supplying good food on a very consistent basis (with of course minor variations depending on the day).

Of course, this needs to be qualified by saying we invariably get the very same meal. Since my wife is very happy with it, we don't vary. For your reference, this is what we have: 1) appetisers of shrimp ceviche tostadas (invariably some of the best you'll experience); 2) chiles rellenos with shrimp (very well prepared and tasty chiles); and 3) the cabritos with corn tortillas. This last is well worth coming to Los Potrillos for. When I was in Monterrey, Mexico, I fell in love with their regional specialty, cabritos (young goat) which can be "to die for" fare. It is hard to find a Mexican restaurant that prepares it, but Los Potrillos has this version, braised in a sauce and served with beans and a hot red sauce to roll up in a tortilla. It comes with a side of vegetables but we always substitute salad ingredients to add to the tortilla. If you order this at Los Potrillos (or any of them), I think your satisfaction can be guaranteed.

Once we had a seafood stew for lunch, but will never order it again. Your experience here may depend on what you have. Note: don't consult the "Menu" selection at the top of this page; LP does not serve pizzas, calzones, and pasta. It truly is real Mexican fare.

The Shed was disappointing, the Pantry was very good, but the specialty shrimp (the Molcajete - sure I butchered the spelling) was, without question the best Mexican entree I have experienced in quite some time.
excellent. reasonably priced, great, freshly smashed guacamole and yummy handmade corn tortillas. Wooohoooo!

Save the money you would spend eating at the Plaza and go to Los Potrillos. Waitstaff was very friendly, service superior, guac the best in NM. The items on the menu were authentic Mexican food.

What a treat! The flavors and decor of La Frontera in Mexico. You walk inside to the delightful aromas of true Mexico. True in theme to northern Mexico, and flavors that reflect the the country as a whole. You can feast on dishes that you have seen in travel shows or have read in Mexican cook books. If you are anywhere in the state of New Mexico head to this wonderful restaurant. It is worth the drive. You will not be disappointed.
