Description: Opened in 2006 by 8 time James Beard Award Nominee, Chef James Campbell Caruso. La Boca has the feel of a lively European wine bar, featuring an extensive selection of carefully chosen Mediterranean and South American wines. Knowledgeable and animated staff graciously guide customers to the perfect wine to complement their meals. La Boca also prides itself on being an ambassador of Spanish sherry culture, transporting its guests to Cadiz in the crisp cool flavors of Fino, or the deep fig-essence of a Pedro Ximenez. Full to capacity almost every night since its opening, La Boca has been a hit with both locals and the world travelers that visit Santa Fe. La Boca has earned numerous awards both local and national, including the Santa Fe Reporter’s “Restaurant of the Year,” and the International Wine and Food Society’s “Award of Excellence.”

La Boca is a great spot to meet with good friends, enjoy tapas and share a one or two bottles of good wine. The place is small, crowded but filled with good vibes and fun. The staff is friendly, and knows the menu and wines well. The tapas are sooooo yummy that I am getting hungry just thinking about my last visit.......a big smile on my face!!

We went on a Tuesday at 6pm and they were packed, so they must be doing something right. However, we didn't have reservations, and the attitude we got was almost like they were doing us a favor by squeezing us in (to which I felt like saying "shut up and take my money!"). The service was fairly attentive but also a bit snobby. Oh yeah, the food. Very good tapas, interesting variety, and they run between $8 and $15 a plate. You'll probably need two for a dinner-sized meal, though there is also complimentary bread. The tapas seem to be freshly made, both by appearance and by taste. Overall it was the sort of restaurant where you'd like to just sit and have a relaxing evening, maybe stretch out dinner over a couple hours with friends, ordering tapas as you feel like it... you know, like actual dinners in Spain. But the rush to cram people in just colors the whole experience.

I rarely write a negative review of a restaurant based on the waitstaff. It is a hard job and most folks do it with very well. Yet the attitude of our waitress was just rude. Two orders were late because she had not put them into the kitchen and she never acknowledged her error. She acted like we were the problem. We all ordered a first plate as an appetizer and one never appeared until the main dishes in-spite of frequent requests. In addition, one of the diners is glutton free and he waited until after the dinner was served for his bread. (in spite of reminders) Then we all received our entrees except again, one person in our party of 6 was served 10 minutes later. We all shared our meals with him while he waited. The folks we dined with are local residents and view this is one of their favorite restaurants and were excited to share it with us. They were embarrassed by the experience and we did not linger for a second bottle of wine. The food itself was excellent but a dinning experience is more than just the meal. Based on other recent reviews the management needs to consider training their staff or addressing this issue.

We wandered around Santa Fe eating here and there, always recommended places and found most to be only okay, not wonderful. We happened to pass La Boca, read the menu and thought we'd try it. We had time only for the Happy Hour but they were glad to make reservations for us for the time we wanted, though they were quite bust even that early. The food, mostly tapas, were spectacular and very different from any other Spanish/Tapas restaurant we had ever eaten in. The service was great, the atmosphere busy but friendly and comfortable, and the prices were reasonable. It was an amazing experience.

Our friends went back another night for a full dinner and said it was even better but we had already left town by then.

Went to the sister restaurant, Taberna, the night before for dinner, and enjoyed it so we thought we would try La Boca for lunch before heading back to Tucson. The food is great. Service was quick. Our server was very knowledgeable of the food and wines. We had to laugh because our Sat evening server was the Sun afternoon bar tender. The wines by the glass are good and the prices reasonable. We would definitely go back. My only complaint about La Boca is the tables are very tight. At Taberna we sat on the patio and it was roomier. Enjoy!
