“Our fabulous stay at the Madeleine Inn in Santa Fe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2010

We have just regretfully returned home after our fourth stay at the Madeleine Inn where each of our visits has exceeded expectations created from our last stay. The Madeleine is a Victorian Bed and Breakfast Inn and its amenities are superb. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds and furnishings, are comfortable, indeed, cozy. Breakfasts are bountiful, tasty, and thoughtfully presented and created from fine quality ingredients. We also look forward to wine and cheese with delicious baking and snacks in the late afternoon when guests congregate round the fire to share in tales of the day's adventures and staff join in in suggesting ideas for the morrow's adventures. The Inn is located a short stroll from the central plaza in the downtown Santa Fe where museums, galleries, bookstores, theatre, and fine restaurants abound. There seems never a cultural down time in Santa Fe. The aboriginal presence is palpable and day trips to fascinating pueblos nearby are always an option as well. Each of our visits has encouraged us to plan a longer stay next time, and this time, we inquired about a month at the Madeleine. This recommendation could not be more positive.

I had the opportunity to experience Nirvanna Spa located at The Madeleine Inn. It was amazing! From the moment you walk into the spa, you are transported into Nirvanna! I had a fabulous facial with an very knowledgeable aesthetician and an unbelievable tai massage that did wonders for me physically as well as mentally! A must do when visiting Santa Fe!

Our first visit to New Mexico found us at the Madeleine Inn. This wonderful Innwas all we could ask for - the room was right on the first floor (most accessable), spacious enough with stained glass windows and a massive queen bed, Our innkeeper and her staff were available to meet our needs every time we asked - recommending great restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions nearby. Breakfasts were generous and filled our tummies to start off each day - complete with a fire in the fireplace omn cool mornings! There was even a cook book with the recipies available! We haven't stopped talkig about our vacation and our stay at the inn. Ten days flew by and we miss all of the great staff people ... Dianna, Diane, Paige, Anna, Greg and of course Carolyn, the most gracious and knowledgable innkeeper.

We spent 3 nights at the Madeleine Inn in early October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Inn and the Hacienda Nicholas across the street are very well-located for visiting Santa Fe and surroundings. The staff was always helpful, whether suggesting day trips or making dinner reservations. Breakfasts were delicious (and filling!) and afternoon wine and snacks gave us a chance to meet other guests and compare notes on our travels. Our room was large and charming. Also had a massage at the spa on the premises - wonderful!

We stayed at the Madeleine Inn for 3 nights in August, just before the Indian Market was coming to town. We were in the king-sized-bed Columbine Room on the first floor. It was a nice quiet room. The room itself wasn't huge but that was OK with us. The bed was comfy and the room was very warm and cozy, loved the ceiling fan above us. There is a window A/C unit that we did use one night to cool off the room. The attached bathroom had ample space, and loved the cushy towels and the shower pressure. Since Santa Fe is in drought conditions, there is a cute note in the bathroom that "navy showers get extra muffins and cookies". Neat. This Inn is also going green, so no little bottles of shampoo (it is hanging in a dispenser on the wall, same for conditioner and body gel), and it was all top quality stuff. Right outside our room was the coffee/water center (no worries, never heard a soul) with cookies and snacks too. Yummm. Every morning between 8-10am you walk across the dead end street for breakfast at Hacienda Nicholas. Wow, eating breakfast like that allows you to skip lunch and then you can eat another great meal at one of Santa Fe's fabulous restaurants (more on that later). Breakfast was superb. Same thing for afternoon wine and snacks, that starts at 5pm. They'll pour you one big glass of wine then cut you off....that's OK because it is time for dinner anyhow. We went on Anna's recommendations - Mucho Gusto right down the street (great, cheap, felt like I was eating at someone's kitchen table), The Shed (on the plaza, great, also inexpensive in my opinion, beautiful outdoor seating, and all the locals said to eat there too), and our favorite La Casa Sena (will write a separate review for that but it was fabulous, beautiful, fancy, special, not cheap).

Overall just a terrific place, and I would stay there again with no questions. We loved being able to park the car (parking is a bit tight but it works) and not move it again, we walked everywhere.

You will love this place!

After booking a Bed & Breakfast (and having a myriad of choices) there is always a little trepidation when you first drive up and enter the premises. Not so with The Madeleine. This Inn is what you hope your B & B might be and more. It is an inviting Victorian Inn that exudes charm, warmth and hospitality. I knew from the moment I saw it that it would be something special. Our room, The Columbine, was conveniently located on the first floor, beautifully adorned with original stained glass windows and lovely period furniture. When staying at an older B & B, it is sometimes hard to find old charm linked harmoniously with pristine surroundings. Caroline, the owner, and the wonderful staff have managed to do just that.

If that weren't enough, the breakfasts were truly outstanding. I consider myself quite a good cook and I have to admit that I looked forward to being "wowed" by the breakfasts every morning. Did I mention that delectable treats were always on hand in the parlor - morning, noon and night.

It really is a "must stay." But please don't book the week we plan to come back, as we will return many times in the future.

Inns don't come any better. This is a small and so lovely spot to relax and enjoy. The rooms are perfect in their details. Comfy beds, lots of pillows, room to sit. Small little areas to sit outdoors. Breakfasts are superb, served in a garden filled with wild flowers, hummingbirds, and sunshine. The staff is eager to please with delicious food choices like a blueberry cream cheese stuffed french toast or calabicitas filling in enchiladas for the morning feast.
Town is a short walk away and the walk is totally enjoyable. Since parking is a terrible problem in he town, this is a joy.

Can't think of a negative thing to say. We can't wait to go back.
