“Madeleine Inn, the indulgence you should relish!”
Reviewed June 23, 2009

My new adoptive daughter and I recently stayed at the Madeleine for our very first "girls' weekend." I picked it because I am a Santa Fean who has always admired the exquisite beauty of this home, even before it was La Madeleine. I also knew the benefit of it's ideal location, so close to the plaza. I wanted the experience to be perfect for us both. I was right.
Our room was equipped with a delicious window bed, indulgently appointed with draping, whimsical fabrics. My daughter took to cuddling in it directly.
We snacked on the scrumptious cookies and teas as we lolled about in our tasteful, cozy (2!) beds oohing and ahhing over the beauty around us. Although we had planned to shop downtown, we were so lulled by the beauty of La madeleine, our room, the seating areas at the inn, as well as the seating indoor and outdoor areas at The Hacienda Nicholas, that we instead sat amongst the Hollyhocks and abundance of lovely flowers and drank our complimentary wine and took pictures which we'll treasure forever.
The next a.m, we went to the Hacienda Nicholas, (the sister inn across the way that is also a perfect example of classic, old-world New Mexican charm and sophistication,) and had a gourmet, tantalizing breakfast of tasty fruit, granola and yogurt, an amazing pastry creation that I had to resist having seconds of, coffee and bacon. The staff, an endearing group of ladies, was especially sweet to my daughter, fussing over her and making us both feel very welcome and comfortable.
We will always treasure our girls' weekend at La Madeleine and Hacienda Nicholas and suggest that the next time you need a getaway that pampers your every need, you will do the same.

The location was good, and it was easy to walk to the Plaza. Breakfast was good but not great. The "wine and cheese" was laughable - they serve Two Buck Chuck. For the price of the rooms (not exorbitant but not cheap), I would expect better wine. The bed was very comfortable, but the room was a bit small. The service from staff was not as hospitable as I would expect from most B&Bs.

I feel very badly that these guests did not love the breakfast as other guests apparently do, judging by our many five star reviews of the last few years. In fact, we had so many requests for our breakfast recipes that we have just published a cookbook and we sell several each day.

As for the wine, it is true that it is Trader Joe’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. I would love to serve fine wines, but that would entail charging more for the rooms. We get so many rave reviews on our wine hour that we have decided to stay with our current choice of a decent wine and lower room pricing. I believe there is only one other inn in town that serves complimentary wine, so this is an additional amenity that goes above and beyond the B&B tradition. We continue to offer the wine hour as our guests love it so.

Our average room rate is $175 and for that the guests have a garden setting just a few blocks from the Plaza in a beautiful historic building, full breakfast of organic and natural ingredients, afternoon cookies, lemonade and tea, along with the evening wine and appetizers.

These guests paid $170 a night for a bedroom that is about 160 square feet, in addition to a small desk area. For downtown Santa Fe, this is considered a very reasonable rate. We do have some much larger rooms, with king beds and fireplaces, but they go for about $250 in high season.

As for hospitality, it is our mission to be kind, friendly and helpful in every way possible to ensure that our guests have a wonderful stay in Santa Fe. Again, it would appear from the plethora of positive reviews we have received in this area that we succeed in meeting our goals.

We will continue to strive to be the best that we can be, and I will take another poll among guests to see if they would prefer that we purchase better wine but then charge a bit more for the rooms. A couple of years ago another guest suggested that we serve better wine. I said I would be happy to do so, but could only do so if I were to charge a bit more per room. This guest immediately replied that he was just fine with what we were serving.

The inn is charming, breakfasts are big and wonderful. Location perfect--close to plaza. We had the third floor suite--roomy and peaceful. Staff is very helpful. Want to return.

My wife and I rented a casita (cottage) at the Madeleine since we were staying a week in Santa Fe on a cross-country "trip of our lifetime." The accomodations were roomy, very attractive, and exceedingly comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious and health conscious. Afterrnoon treats were out of this world! The owner and staff were warm, friendly, knowledgable, helpful, and constantly attentive to our needs. The location was ideal, within easy walking distance to the Santa Fe Plaza, Canyon Road Galleries, museums, other historic attractions, and restaurants.

We just spent a week at a small property called The Casita, associated with the Madeleine Inn B&B. It is a comfortable and charmingly furnished one-bedroom cottage a few blocks from the B&B, with a kiva fireplace and a kitchenette. We were greeted warmly by the staff at the Madeleine, and we were given many suggestions about things to do and places to eat in Santa Fe. Our unit was serviced daily, and a new fire was set in the fireplace. Without exception, the staff were friendly and helpful. But the biggest surprise was the Absolute Nirvana Spa, the small boutique spa associated with the Madeleine, where we each had the most transporting spa expefiences we had ever had. The master-level therapists gave the kind of intense personal care not found in large hotel spas. The unique Balinese surroundings added to the experience. The Deluxe Treatment should not be missed. Altogether, a very restorative and happy time.

This was simply a great place. Close as in walking distance to downtown Santa Fe. A wonderful, unpretentious, yet classy, and sumptuous place. Downstairs they have sweets, and a beautiful parlor. Be sure to look at the masks from Bali. The rooms were great. Big comfortable bed. Close to downtown but still all we heard in the morning were the birds.
The breakfast is great, you get to sit around and schmooze with the other guests. The wine hour is a lot of fun - also a chance to socialize. The owner and her assistants did absolutely everything to make our stay enjoyable.
Truly one of the best inns we've stayed in.

Loving relaxed yet professional, friendly "vibe", care, service. Personal touches and felt like I was "home" from the moment I stepped into this lovely old house. Great location, parking, staff. Location is great, tucked away yet central, easy to walk a million great places. Safe, clean, well appointed. Relaxed atmosphere, god resources everywhere. I shall return.
