Description: Mark Kiffin, celebrated chef, owner, and author of the Compound Restaurant, has won the James Beard Foundation award as one of America's Best Chefs. The Compound is Santa Fe's premier restaurant with Chef Kiffin's acclaimed seasonal Contemporary American cuisine derived from Santa Fe's rich heritage of regional and Mediterranean influences. The New York Times, Gourmet magazine, The Wall Street Journal and Wine Spectator have all selected the Compound as Santa Fe's favorite. Equally impressive is the attentive, highly knowledgeable and friendly staff. Chef Kiffin's menus focus on the exclusive changes in seasons such as hearty braised dishes in the fall and winter using apples, pears and cider from local harvests, osso bucco and porcini risotto while in spring and summer feature fresh local vegetables and naturally raised organic lamb and delectable strawberries.

We've had a great lunch with amazing service and nice food, BUT, too much salt on all the dishes. Cut back on the salt for a 5 rating

“Outdated what a Scam .”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

At our arrival we couldn't help to notice the old decor stuck in the 70's, chairs are very dirty and old for a "fine dining ", we had a private party in the back and at the end we ask our server if they get all the tips and they say that they get paid hourly so basically they get screw with their own money by the restaurant that is Scaming them and paying out of their tips to "other " employees , what a shame !

“One of the Best in Santa Fe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

Truly excellent food. We ate lunch. Reservations recommended. Potato soup-wonderful. I had salmon and my wife had the chicken schnitzel-both excellent. No room for dessert. Tablecloth dining, excellent service. Sure it is pricy, but worth it if you enjoy food and want a special meal.

“Oasis amid the galleries”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

A very good choice if you're touring the multitude of art galleries on Canyon Road. You have to look for the sign, then head down their alley to reach this restaurant. Once inside, the decor is traditional and quite. Service prompt and efficient. We were there for restaurant week, so did not look at the standard menu. Our choices were starter: potato soup, arugula salad, or fried oysters. We had soup and salad, both were excellent. For mains we chose beef short ribs with red onion whiskey gravy and seared salmon, again both were excellent; the knife was not necessary at all for the ribs. No one chose the polenta with mushrooms. Desserts were a variety of sorbets or lemon or chocolate torte. All tasty. The wine list was moderately large, but very few economical options. That said, we picked one of the lowest priced wines and it was a good accompaniment for our dinner. All in all, a very pleasant outing.

“Quiet lunch spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

If you are going for a bargain forget it. Does that mean don't go? Not to me. This very established, lovely place isn't the new kid on the block and that OK with us. We took some older folks who love the Compound, as do we, and the food and service was excellent. The wines by the glass were high,$13 to $15 per glass but oh well. The bottle prices were high too but not as high as Geronimo's. We had the same wine there the same night for dinner and it was $5 more. So go for the experience. We had no trouble at the door, they were expecting us and the wait staff was great!
